Last Chance to comment:
The Forest Service is considering whether or not to grant permits for an expansion of the Lutsen Ski Resort in the Superior National Forest of Northeastern Minnesota. Northeastern Minnesotans for Wilderness is opposed to this expansion. The proposed expansion would negatively impact the environment, limit public land access, and violate the rights of the Grand Portage band of Lake Superior Chippewa under the 1854 Treaty. Working with our allies at WaterLegacy, Winter Wildlands Alliance, and Superior Highlands Backcountry, we developed and submitted comments to the Forest Service urging them to reject the proposed expansion.

Check out these helpful links for more information and to personalize and submit your own comment before the December 9 deadline.

The Lutsen Mountains Ski Resort has applied for a U.S. Forest Service “Special Use Permit” to expand the resort, add 1,260 parking spaces, and affect 495 acres of Superior National Forest public lands.

Speak Loudly For All Quiet Places: This broadside created by Ben Weaver contains a text excerpt from a poem that he wrote for and read to Explorers Dave and Amy Freeman when he brought them a resupply during their Year in the Wilderness. He says, “I think it is essential to remember why we go to wild places like the BWCA and how they help us to better understand our place on this planet, reminding us of the greater ecosystems to which our lives are connected and depend upon.”

Look for these prints at this weekend's Fisherman’s Picnic in Grand Marais and other upcoming events!

Ben is back in in Minnesota after his Sees Like a River Album release tour, during which he biked 1,7000 miles connecting the Boundary Waters, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River on back roads. Along the way he performed 13 shows and engaged the communities he visiting in conversations around water ethics. He has a show coming up in Minneapolis - RSVP and buy tickets on Facebook: http://bit.ly/2uKT4NJ
