Players for Pits, NFP

Players for Pits, NFP Players For Pits is a 501c3 non-profit organization, based in Illinois that features professional athletes who are against animal abuse.

Our Philosophies:

Players for Pits is dedicated towards advocating and implementing responsible pet ownership for the dogs in our program. Our adoption process is structured towards the ability to consider the needs of both the applicant(s) as well as the dog(s). There is no set time frame on how long it can take for an adoption to take place as each situation is as unique as the individual dogs

in our rescue. Every dog adopted out will be current on vaccinations, altered, dewormed, microchipped to the rescue and tested for heartworm (age appropriate). Any dog taken in with a medical issue will be treated by the rescue with the best possible care administered by our vets. We do not put emphasis on “breed labeling” at Players for Pits. While we rationalize with breed stereotypes and tendencies, it is impossible to accurately predict behavior of a mixed breed dog based on assumed physical breed traits. Scientifically, less than 1% of a dogs genes determine their outward appearance, therefore we consider each dog in our rescue an individual with their own unique personality and characteristics. We urge all applicants to apply for a dog based on the dog and not their assumptions of personality based on what breed the dog looks like. Players for Pits is a part of many educational programs, including community outreach, spay and neuter programs, as well as canine assisted therapy work. Every member of the PFP team is active in helping community members around us while educating the public to become more involved in animal welfare. Our goal is to increase the amount of awareness in the community to help lead our cities toward a collective “no-kill” status. PFP seeks to dismantle the negative stereotypes surrounding “pit bulls” in our society. We will help our adopters if they would like their “pit bull” mix dog enrolled in Canine Good Citizenship class and continue on towards active therapy work with their dog. Our alumni participate in many programs that give back to the community and we aim to increase the number of working therapy “pit bulls” yearly. Because Chicago is a high traffic area for dog fighting and breeding, we work within those targeted areas to spay and neuter dogs and educate the owners about overpopulation. We work with the police to combat dog fighting and urge anyone with tips to immediately report them to their local authorities. We can also direct you to anonymous tip lines.

Sesame's glow-up is another one we all needed.

It’s hard to believe Sesame has been with us for just about a month! In that short time, this sweet boy has received all the TLC and love a puppy deserves as he gets ready for the biggest step of his life — finding his true forever home.

Sesame is discovering all the fun things being a puppy has to offer. He LOVES his balls, is starting to warm up to playing with the resident dogs, and absolutely loves a good game of chase outside.

There’s just one tiny problem… Sesame is COMICALLY slow. So if you’re looking for a serious athlete, he may not be your guy. If you’re looking for a puppy who will make you laugh, steal your heart, and remind you how much a little love can change a life — Sesame might be exactly who you’ve been waiting for.

Tamatoa aka Tuesday has been in boarding since May 26th after changes happened with his foster.

Tuesday is a dog that would like to be the only dog at home. This has set him back with finding anyone who will give him the chance he deserves at a forever life with his people.

Solo dogs are good dogs too.

He really deserves to get back into a foster home and we need to find one ASAP.

- Back into a life that all dogs deserve.

- A life where he is not crated a majority of the day

- A life with routine, companionship, love, enrichment, couch cuddles, and being a nosey neighbor.

And just like that, Jolene has left the building! She has now been settled into her foster home for a full day and woke up this morning after a great night sleep ready to seize the day!

Jolene is definitely in the worst condition of all 3 dogs that were surrendered together and we can tell shes a little more down in the dumps. Her urine is a dark brown color, her legs are raw to the touch and her teeth are ground down in many places. But she has welcomed her crate and snoozes peacefully whether shes in there or curled on the couch with her foster human.

We cant wait to see her happy and get a life she always deserved. Jolene has quite a bit of vetting to do but then its time to find her forever family.

This is our last post of the trios fundraiser so we are asking for any remaining donations we can gather to help vet these 3 amazing dogs. Please donate if you can and share these posts to help us reach more who may be able to help 💙

Little miss Dolly is outta the shelter! Our foster got her late last night and shes already had her first vet visit today for a UTI.

Did we mention she's perfect? Dolly is so loving and happy and is obsessed with exploring her fosters yard! She also loves rhe safety of her crate - she walks right in anf curls up before snoring away!

Dolly has a lot of medical issues right now. On top of her terrible skin, she has some random masses and past injuries that have healed over. She is older and we have a lot of vetting to do so if you can help us help her please consider a $5 today!

Carl is HAPPY to be out of the shelter and in his foster home! Named after Dolly Partons husband, Carl is already proving to be a very, very, very special boy.

Thanks to he snagged an evening ride out of the shelter and to his foster parents! Thank you Nicole & family for not only welcoming another foster, but for giving him a great welcome to the pack!

Carl enjoyed a warm bath (foster mom says he was a perfect angel for all of it) then got to explore his temp home and quickly took advantage of the couch to cuddle with the humans!

If you pledged for Dotty, Carl or Jolene please visit the donation link to honor your pledge. If youd like to donate towards the trios care please use the donation button on this post or any of the methods below! We need all the help we can get - these 3 are going to need a lot of vet support.

We love making miracles happen but we can only do that with you or help by sharing our posts and donating when you can 💙

Want to help us save these two dogs? We are doing a $5 campaign to give these two a new start to life.

A little bit about them. Both were surrendered by their owner and are older. The tri-color is an 8 year old female who's far too skinny and her ears need some vet attention. The gray and white guy is closer to 5 or 6 years old and is also in rough shape.

Help us give these two the life they always deserved with just a $5 donation 💙

Noelle loved her time at the Hollywood Hounds event and was the goodest girl.

Just Look at how happy she was 🤩

Noelle is still looking for her people - those who no longer want an empty house and are looking to hear little pitter patters following you from room to room. Someone looking for something sweet, silly, loyal, and lowers your stress levels with her cuddles.

We would like to introduce Tilly & Kitty 👋🏼

These two girls are about to be 13 weeks old and were the product of a 🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁

lack of spay and neuter….Just add them to the list.

The mom is a bully breed mix who had some how happen to cross paths with the neighbors male great dane. Someone forgot to give them the birds and the bees talk.

The mom was given away to a family member in another state shortly after. The babies were left behind and were kept outside.

Despite a lack of structure the puppies desperately need these girls are super sweet, LOVES kids, and are very social.
