Psalm 46:10
Good morning Coach!
Last weekend I was watching the SEC Baseball Tournament. I can’t remember who was playing but the commentators said that the coach had built his team’s success on basic fundamentals, modern analytics and intentional relationships. Although I’m a little old school and don’t know much about analytics, I really liked the combination of the trio.
As a coach I’m sure you know the importance of all three. Seems like to me it’s about coaching the body, soul, and the spirit. You can’t get very far without basic fundamentals. That’s why you invest a lot of time and energy on getting your team in shape and teaching them the basic fundamentals of the sport you coach.
But you also have to prepare them mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Connecting with your players on a relational level allows you can teach them and take them to places that they could never reach by themselves. Your role in their lives is priceless!
As I said earlier, I really don’t know a lot about analytics, but I do know a lot about our tendencies of wandering away from God instead of drawing close to Him. The scriptures teach of some basic fundamentals in our walk with God. When you and I are intentional in our relationship with Jesus Christ, we can find that that these basic fundamentals lead is to be more like Christ and helps us understand who He is and who we are.
In today’s verse we read about 3 things God calls us to each day of our lives. First, He calls us to “Be”. Second, He calls us to “Be still”. And through those two simple steps we can, third, “Know that He is God”! Coach, my prayer for you today is that you will learn the basic fundamentals of the Christian life and that you will be intentional in seeking an authentic relationship with Christ. I believe the analytics will be in your favor!
Have a great weekend and summer! Give ‘Em Heaven!
