ESHRM – Memorial Day Weekend 2026

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, ESHRM reflects on the men and women who gave their lives in service to our nation. 🇺🇸

This weekend is more than the start of summer — it is a time to honor sacrifice, courage, and commitment. As HR professionals, we recognize and respect the values of leadership and service exemplified by our fallen heroes. 🤝

We also hold in our thoughts the families who continue to live with both pride and profound loss.

May we carry the spirit of remembrance into our workplaces and communities throughout the year.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

At Elizabethtown Society for Human Resource Management (ESHRM), we recognize that mental health is not just a personal issue — it’s a workplace priority. As HR professionals and business leaders, we play a critical role in fostering cultures where employees feel supported, valued, and safe.

Workplace mental health impacts engagement, productivity, retention, and overall organizational success. Creating environments that encourage open conversations, provide meaningful resources, and reduce stigma makes a lasting difference for employees and the communities we serve.

Join us at our upcoming ESHRM meeting on May 15th from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (Bldg. JSO – Room 112) as we continue conversations that strengthen our workplaces and our profession.

Let’s lead the way in building healthier workplaces — together.

🌟 May ESHRM Board Spotlight: Sherry Whitman-Powers 🌟

This month, we are honored to spotlight Sherry Powers, one of ESHRM’s founding leaders whose passion for building relationships has fueled her commitment to HR for the past 20 years. Sherry helped establish ESHRM and continues to pour into our chapter with the same dedication and heart for service.

As our Speaker Chair, Sherry identifies relevant and engaging speakers who bring insight and value to the topics our members prioritize through our annual survey. She also leads our community outreach efforts, helping connect employers with local nonprofits and highlighting how HR professionals can support and strengthen those missions. Her work strengthens workplace culture and deepens our impact across the community.

Beyond ESHRM, Sherry has served on boards including Helping Hand of Hope, Feeding America, Greenspace, and United Way, and currently serves as a Hardin County Election Officer. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at Mammoth Cave, Hospice, and the Glendale Lions Club, biking, and spending time with her husband, Dale, and their two boys, Drew and Gaige.

ESHRM thrives on connection—to ideas, to people, and to our community. Sherry’s leadership is a powerful reminder that strong relationships create strong workplaces. 💙

🌟 ESHRM Board Spotlight – Jerisia Lothery Lamons🌟

This month, we’re excited to highlight Jerisia Lamons, our Workforce Readiness representative!

Jerisia serves as the Director of Career Services at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC), where she assists students who are nearing completion of their programs with successfully transitioning into the workforce. While she has been in her current role since January, Jerisia has been making an impact at ECTC in various roles since 2017.

Within ESHRM, Jerisia focuses on Workforce Readiness—helping strengthen the connection between education and employment. She volunteers with ESHRM because it provides valuable networking opportunities that increase career pathways for ECTC students. As she says, workforce is the backbone of all systems—and we couldn’t agree more!

Thank you, Jerisia, for your dedication to students, employers, and our HR community! 👏

ESHRM: Community Connection-CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate

CASA is a non-profit that recruits, trains and supports volunteers who watch over and advocate for abused and neglected children.

They need you to share their need for CASA Advocates!

What are their responsibilities?

Advocates ensure children do not get lost in the overburdened legal and social service systems, or languish in inappropriate group or foster homes. A CASA volunteer stays with a case until it is closed, and the child to whom they are appointed is placed in a safe, permanent home.

Time commitment varies between 5-15 hours per month. You are provided training for your role.

Currently there are 90 children who need a CASA representative.

You are invited to the CASA 5k Run/Walk! Register here.
