This year's celebration of Syttende Mai included, a silent auction, dinner, and a wonderful opening of the American and Norwegian National Anthems by Mary Elworthy on recorder.

Then attendees were treated to a fascinating lecture by Professor Paul Kaldjian exploring why Nordic countries consistently rank among the happiest in the world. Blending geography, culture, sociology, and personal stories, Dr. Kaldjian examined the ideas behind the World Happiness Report and challenged common assumptions about what happiness really means. Drawing heavily on examples from Finland (since he made it very clear he's Finnish!) and the broader Nordic world, the presentation offered thoughtful insights into how societies can foster well-being through personal responsibility and collective care. It was an engaging and inspiring evening that encouraged everyone to reflect on what truly contributes to a meaningful and fulfilling life. Happy May 17th! 🇳🇴🇳🇴🇳🇴
