Keeping Lake Beulah safe and clean is a team effort. That’s why we’ve partnered with the ETPD to make speaking up easier than ever! Next time you see a safety concern, just look for a QR code on signs, community boards, or docks around the lake. Scan the code, fill out the form, and help us keep the water safe for everyone.

A quick scan can prevent the next incident. Let's look out for each other!

Short a life jacket for each person on the boat? No worries. The DNR partners with organizations to provide Life Jacket Loaner Stations at some spots around the state. Feel free to borrow one or more life jackets, and please return them when back on shore.

Sharing is another safety action! Here are few safety actions to follow because safety is always part of the fun:

– Wear your life jacket, boat sober and check the safety equipment.
– Make sure someone on shore knows your excursion plan, including return time.
– Take a boating safety course and follow the boating regulations. Done? Now go have fun!

Hitting the water this weekend? Boat safe. Boat sober.

Alcohol use is a leading factor in recreational boating incidents across Wisconsin and the country.

A boat operator or passenger with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit runs a significantly increased risk of being involved in a boating crash, as alcohol use can impair a boater’s judgment, balance, vision and reaction times.

Additionally, sun, wind, noise, vibration and motion, all “stressors” common to the boating environment, can intensify the effects of alcohol. Alcohol is dangerous for passengers, too. Intoxication can cause slips, falls over board and other dangerous incidents.

Get Smart About Boating! Take an online boating safety course this summer.

It’s easy, convenient and will make you a better, safer boater! Depending on your age, it may even be required to operate a boat. Boating safety certification (or out-of-state equivalent certification) is required for operators born on or after Jan. 1, 1989.

SETTING UP YOUR MONITORING BRICK

Select a spot with little water movement. Avoid areas with lots of mud or thick plants.

Tie the brick to your pier and lower it into the water so it hangs about one foot above the lake bottom. Make sure it stays fully submerged and doesn’t sit in the mud.

Leave it there. The brick gives zebra mussels a place to attach, making it easier to spot them early.

Once a month, pull your brick up and inspect it for zebra mussels. If you see any, snap a picture and submit to PLB!

Simple setup. Easy to check. Early detection can make a difference.

Calling all paddlers to use safety actions! Why? You stay safe while enjoying the paddle – and you help make the waterways safe for everyone else on their excursions.

Paddlers should always wear a life jacket. You’re required to have one on board, so just wear it. Stay sober, be seen and stay weather-aware! Plan your paddle with a return time and share that plan with someone on shore.
