To all grass runway operators:
It seems that it is Badger time again. I have noticed a spike in badger holes on the grass areas of 57C in recent weeks. These are 8-10 inches in diameter and very in depth from a few inches to more than 4 feet (YES ,4 Feet!!).
PLEASE watch for holes appearing overnight. Be extra vigilant in scanning the runway as you taxi and maneuver on 18/36 and the areas out side the runway markers and the turnaround sections at each end. There are also many new holes in the”infield “
grass at the West end of Runway 26. ( both sides of the runway).
The Badgers are hunting the Chipmunk/ ground squirrels and they can displace a huge amount of dirt and leave a hole which could take out a tail wheel and many nose wheels!! If you see a hole, Note its location and call or email me or Walter and I will get it filled ASAP.
Below are photos of a hole on the runway taken today. This one has no extra "dirt mound” built up and I had to be onto of it before it came into view. So , EYES UP on the grass operations.
