When we're struggling, it's easy to believe that our pain means we're falling behind, doing something wrong, or failing to cope the way we "should."

But pain is not a measure of your worth, your strength, or your ability to move forward.

Healing often begins when we stop judging ourselves for what we've been through and start treating ourselves with understanding instead. Struggles, setbacks, and difficult seasons are part of being human, not proof that you're failing.

Give yourself permission to heal without turning your pain into a verdict about who you are. Growth starts with compassion, not criticism.

The countdown is on!

In just 35 days, we'll welcome the community to This Is Me: Works in Progress, an exhibition in collaboration with the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Center for the Art of Medicine (CFAM) and Center for Health Interprofessional Programs (CHIP), featuring artwork by Artability artists.

Behind every piece of art is a story. During the reception, Artability artists will share original writings that offer a deeper understanding of the thoughts, experiences, and perspectives that have shaped their work.

Thursday, September 10th
5:00–7:00 p.m.

The Interprofessional Student Lounge is located in HSEC 7‑110, within the Health Sciences Education Center on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.

Free and open to the public. We hope you'll join us as we count down to this special event.

Behind the Canvas: Georgia O'Keeffe

Georgia O'Keeffe found inspiration in the natural world, using art as a way to slow down, focus, and connect with her surroundings. Through painting, she transformed simple shapes, flowers, landscapes, and natural forms into powerful works of art that reflected both beauty and inner calm.

For O'Keeffe, creativity wasn't just about creating something beautiful—it was a way to feel grounded, quiet the noise around her, and foster a sense of independence and healing.

Her story reminds us that nature and creativity can play an important role in supporting our mental well-being. Whether it's a walk outdoors, time spent gardening, or creating art inspired by the world around us, small moments of connection can have a meaningful impact on how we feel.

We often think change requires a dramatic reset—a new year, a new plan, or a fresh start. But meaningful progress is often built through small decisions made one step at a time.

If things feel overwhelming, remember that you don't have to have everything figured out today. Sometimes growth looks like making one healthier choice, asking for support, setting a boundary, or simply taking the next step forward.

Small steps may not feel significant in the moment, but they can lead to meaningful change over time.

The words you say to yourself matter more than you may realize. Over time, your inner dialogue can shape your confidence, influence your perspective, and impact how you respond to challenges.

If you constantly tell yourself you're not good enough, your mind starts to accept that as truth. But when you practice self-compassion, patience, and encouragement, you create space for growth and resilience.

You don't have to be positive all the time. Just remember that the voice you hear most often is your own, make it one that helps you move forward, not one that holds you back.
