What if instead of buying a new EV, you built one?

Like, ripped out the gas engine and dropped in a motor, battery pack, and BMS. In a '65 Mustang. Or a โ€™94 Japanese fire truck. (Because we all have so many of those lying around.)

Big congratulations to Holy Cross Energy for reaching 85% renewable electricity in 2025 โ€” a nationally recognized milestone!

And they did it while keeping rates 40% below the national average and a third below the state average. They are demonstrating that clean energy can be affordable energy, even on the western slope.

One thing that stands out is their investment in LOCAL solar and storage projects. As Holy Cross CEO Bryan Hannegan put it, localized power sources "might come at a higher cost, but they are less likely to be compromised by equipment failures, cybersecurity hacks, physical infrastructure damage or a storm." Resilience is part of the value.

Holy Cross is a rural electric cooperative and their path is a model that's resonating and demonstrating what's possible across Colorado - including right here in the southwest part of the state. We're so grateful our own La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) is on a similar journey, working toward a cleaner, affordable, more resilient grid for our community.

It's exciting to see Colorado co-ops leading the way. ๐Ÿ’š

Thanks to everyone who came out last night to watch Save the Farm, Save the Future and learn about agrivoltaics! ๐ŸŒฑโ˜€๏ธ

It was a great evening of honest conversation about the real challenges facing agriculture - and the creative, hopeful solutions that could help build a more resilient future for farmers and our community.

A huge thank you to the Jack's Solar Garden + Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center and the American Farmland Trust for making the trip down to our corner of the state. We're lucky to have such knowledgeable partners willing to share their work with us!

And thanks to La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) for attending and leading the way with agrivoltaics in phase 2 of the Sunnyside Community Solar project! We can't wait to check it out.

๐ŸŒพโ˜€๏ธ Have you heard of agrivoltaics? Curious to learn more?

Agrivoltaics is the idea that solar panels and farmland don't have to compete - they can actually work together. And for farmers facing drought, rising costs, and an uncertain future, it might just be a lifeline.

We're teaming up with Jack's Solar Garden + Colorado Agrivoltaic Learning Center to host a free screening of Save the Farm, Save the Future in Durango on May 5th, followed by a panel discussion. Bring your questions!

โ„๏ธ Cooling is becoming more of a necessity in communities like ours because of both warming and wildfires.

Our Regional Energy Coach, Erika Brown, recently contributed a post for Rewiring America's Electric Coach Monthly Newsletter highlighting that change and how heat pumps meet the need with incredible efficiency.

๐Ÿ’ฒColorado's HEAR Program is now offering up to $8000 toward heat pumps, dramatically and positively changing the economic case to upgrade. Reach out if you have questions or want to talk through options for your home.
