Both meetings are open to all La Plata CD and Pine River CD constituents and interested members of the general public. 🌱 Calling high school students interested in farming, sustainability, and the outdoors! 🌱

SWCEC is excited to help promote The Old Fort at Hesperus Farmers-in-Training (FIT) Program—a hands-on, paid summer experience for students ready to get their hands dirty and learn what it takes to grow food at high elevation.

📅 July 7 – August 13
🕗 Tuesday–Thursday | 8:00am–4:00pm (24 hrs/week)
💰 Paid field work at $17/hour (up to 14 hrs/week)
📍 Old Fort, near Hesperus

Students in the FIT program will:
🌾 Earn 2 college credits in Environmental & Sustainability Studies
🌾 Gain hands-on experience farming ~3 acres of vegetables
🌾 Learn high-elevation growing techniques
🌾 Connect with Fort Lewis College students, staff, and regional farms
🌾 Explore careers in agriculture, food systems, and sustainability

Who can apply?
👉 Current 10th–12th graders (Fall 2026)
👉 Students must provide their own transportation

🗓 Application deadline: March 1
📄 FLC course paperwork due by April 15

This is an incredible opportunity for students curious about farming, environmental pathways, or earning college credit while getting paid. 🌞🌱
