Contract negotiations are underway between USW Local 9460 and Essentia Health. At issue is the contract covering the 800 tech workers at Essentia's facilities in the Twin Ports.

The union is calling on all workers covered by the Red Book contract to display union signs in their parked cars on May 18. You can get a car sign from either your union steward, a member of the CAT (Communication & Action Team) or at the Local 9460 office in the Labor Temple.

These car signs are part of an escalating series of actions the union is organizing. Be sure to get your co-workers involved! We're all in this together ~ solidarity gets results!

Members of USW Local 9460 have come together to create Labor for Choice - a fundraising team for the HOTDISH Militia's Bowlathon fundraiser. HOTDISH runs our local abortion fund, which is there for anyone who needs help paying for their abortion in the state of MN. The Bowlathon fundraiser ends this Saturday evening. United Steelworkers Local 9460 was at the May Day rally in Duluth yesterday. We set up a table and circulated a petition. And, our member Kory was one of the featured speakers! Duluth Federation of Teachers marked International Workers Day by wearing their union colors on the job. This is a cool and easy action for unions to do for May Day. Lets try and spread this throughout the local labor movement!

Yesterday our union's Next Gen committee picked up trash in downtown Duluth's Medical District. Workers from both Essentia and Aspirus came together to mark Earth Day in what has become an annual tradition for Next Gen. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Our union's Next Gen Committee is planning on doing an Earth Day cleanup of Duluth's Medical District. This annual event consists of volunteers picking up trash around the healthcare campuses in downtown Duluth. Anyone is welcome to attend. If you're interested in participating gather at the Local 9460 office at 5pm on April 22. Our office is located in Room 206 of the Duluth Labor Temple at 2002 London Road.

Today is the last day of the 3rd annual Cherrio Challenge. If you still have any breakfast cereal you'd like to donate, you can do so until 4:30pm at the Duluth Labor Temple. The donations will go to the Damiano Center and other local food shelves.
