Thank you to every Dublin City Schools staff member who submitted a fall DEF grant application.

Each application begins with a staff member recognizing a need or opportunity for students and taking the time to imagine what could be possible.

The review process is now underway. We look forward to sharing the projects selected for funding after decisions are finalized.

We are excited to see Dublin Scioto High School’s Purple Star Club featured in the October/November issue of Dublin Life Magazine .

The “Students in Service” feature celebrates the work of social studies teacher and club advisor John Witt and Scioto’s student leaders, who create meaningful ways to recognize, remember, honor and support veterans and military families.

During the 2024 to 2025 school year, DEF provided a $500 grant to support the club’s Veterans Experience project. The walk through display shared the stories and journeys of more than 70 veterans, helping students and the community learn from their service and experiences.

We are proud to help fund meaningful ideas like this and honored to play a small part in work led by dedicated DCS staff members and students.

Congratulations to John Witt and the Purple Star Club, and thank you to Dublin Life Magazine for sharing their story.

Meet Tyra Galloway, a member of the Dublin Education Foundation Board since 2022.

Tyra has supported Dublin City Schools as a parent volunteer, scholarship judge and educator. After teaching in Columbus and Florida, she returned to the classroom and now teaches at Hopewell Elementary.

Her firsthand understanding of the work teachers do brings an educator’s perspective to DEF’s mission of supporting meaningful learning opportunities across the district.

At Olde Sawmill Elementary School , music teacher Amanda O’Neil partnered with BalletMet to bring an eight-week Moving Into Literacy program to second graders.

Through dance, music and live piano accompaniment, students explored a Language Arts story through movement, helping them engage with and remember key concepts.

DEF awarded $3,000 to support the experience.

This is DEF impact in action: educators connecting curriculum with meaningful experiences that help students participate and learn.

At Eli Pinney Elementary , intervention specialist Caroline Barrie recognized that Clicker Connect could make writing more accessible for students and applied for a DEF grant to expand access. The program allows students to build sentences using symbol supported words, phrases, and pictures, giving them more ways to participate in writing.

DEF awarded $2,525 for iPads and program access, supporting greater participation and independence.
