💜Domestic Violence Awareness Month Important Message:
As Wyomingites are well aware; when you live in a rural community, getting the help you need isn't always as simple as making a phone call.
For victims of abuse and other forms of victimization, resources may be limited or in some cases, hours away. There may be limited transportation, few housing options, fewer mental health providers, limited legal services, and not enough specialized programs to meet the needs of every person who reaches out.
For advocates, that means at times helping a client can require much more than making a referral. It can mean calling multiple agencies, searching for transportation, coordinating services in another community, and just trying our darnedest to piece together resources that sometimes aren't available locally.
Rural communities deserve access to meaningful support—and victims shouldn't have fewer options simply because of where they live.
At the Hope Center, our small but mighty team of 5 work tirelessly to help bridge those gaps for Converse and Niobrara county survivors, but we can't do it alone. Community support and sustainable funding are essential to keeping these services available when people need them most.
