I’d like to introduce you to the best squirrel dad I ever knew, Grandpa Two Ears.

Everything you read says male squirrels play little to no role after the babies are born. But Grandpa Two Ears never seemed to get that memo. Time and time again, he stayed close, keeping watch over his youngsters and their mothers, always nearby as if standing guard over his family.

He reminded me that nature still has surprises left to teach us, and that good fathers come in all shapes, sizes, and species.

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is pause for a moment and see wildlife differently.

The fox is not sneaking through your yard to cause trouble. It is looking for food.
The bird building a nest is not making a mess. It is trying to raise its young.
The turtle crossing the road is not in the way. It is simply trying to get somewhere safely.
The bee visiting flowers is not “just a bug.” It is part of the life that keeps gardens, wildflowers, and food growing.

Every wild thing has a life that matters deeply to itself.

A little patience, a little space, and a little understanding can make a big difference.

Hard shelled nuts are excellent treats for your squirrels. They need the hard shells to help grind down their teeth. Walnuts, almonds, pecans in the shell are awesome!

Housekeeping is never an issue for our squirrels... as long as room service comes first. This group needs to be occupied while we clean or nothing will get done. Not sure if it is like a frat house or daycare.

Shopping for food for the squirrels again. We typically have to purchase fresh vegetables and fruits 3 to 4 times a week. They are very picky and won't eat frozen or canned food just fresh like they will eat in the wild.

Self feeding baby squirrels? This little fox squirrel loves its breakfast formula and always wants to feed herself.
