Because of you, a little girl we will call “Ariel” tried kale for the very first time.
Ariel is a preschooler who participates in Head Start, a program specifically designed for children and their caregivers to learn together.

Your support directly funds our mission to bring hands-on food and nutrition experiences directly into Head Start classrooms across the region.

One morning a few weeks ago, Ariel stood beside her mom and her classmates making a simple kale salad with pumpkin seeds and cranberries.

Then something wonderful happened.
When it was time to move on to the next activity, which was exploring plants and making smoothies with Farmer Atiba, Ariel didn't want to leave her salad behind.
She pleaded with her mom to save it for later. She wanted to finish every last bite.
Think about that for a moment…

A child who had never tasted kale before loved it so much she didn't want it to go to waste. That's the kind of transformation you make possible.

Because of you, children and families aren't just hearing about healthy foods. They're growing them. Tasting them. Preparing them together. Discovering that fresh, nourishing food can be fun, delicious, accessible.

These moments may seem small. But they're where lasting change begins.
A child discovers a new favorite food. A parent learns an easy recipe they can make again at home. A family gains confidence in preparing healthy meals together.
And little by little, you and Greener Partners help build healthier, more equitable communities.

There are thousands more children and families waiting for these opportunities.
Your gift today will help bring more Farm Explorer workshops, more fresh food experiences, more moments of discovery to families throughout our community.

Will you make a gift today and help create more “Ariel moments?”

Greener Partner's Head Start program works with preschools throughout the region. We see literal looks of shock at kids eating fresh salads that they make from greens, asking their parents to hold onto their veggie snacks so they can come back and eat more after they play. It’s been a joy to see moments of discovery happen not only with our students, but alongside the people who care most for them. As we see time and time again, when we give people of all ages the agency to make their own food and try vegetables in multiple ways, their feelings about what healthy foods they like improve.

A young boy uncovered a big, juicy earthworm. It was wriggling through the soil.

For our educators, moments like this are gold. Suddenly, science is alive and moving in your hand.

The students curiously gathered.

They learned how decomposers help build healthy soil. They watched carefully as classmates took turns gently holding the worm.
Some squealed. Some laughed. Some leaned in with wide eyes.
But one student, let’s call him Justin, stayed back.

He was very clear: “I do NOT want to touch it.”

That was okay. Because discovery-based learning works best when children can explore at their own pace…with curiosity, not pressure.

We kept talking. Observing. Wondering. Then something changed.
As the lesson wrapped, it was time to place the earthworm back into the soil. Justin suddenly called out:
“Wait! I haven’t had my turn yet!”

With visible nerves…and a tremendous amount of bravery…he reached out and gently petted the earthworm.

Once. Then twice.

It may seem like a small moment. But moments like this are where confidence begins.

This is how children learn to trust themselves. How they build curiosity. How they connect with the living systems that nourish all of us: healthy soil, healthy food, healthy communities. And none of it happens by accident.

Because of supporters like you, children across our community are digging into garden beds, tasting fresh foods, asking questions, and discovering that they belong in the natural world.

A gift today will help expand equitable fresh food access, support urban farming initiatives, and bring hands-on learning experiences to more children throughout our community.

This year at Greener Partners we’ve expanded our work with Head Start preschools throughout the region. New this year, we’ve done a series of three Child+Caregiver workshops. Each class incorporates two recipes that are child-led, while we offer gardening tips, tricks, and resources. Families go home with a bag of seasonal produce, ingredients, and gardening materials like seed and plants. Without fail, during each visit we see multiple instances of students trying new things and surprising their parents by enjoying the vegetables!

Can I take you to a special moment we experienced recently?

A kindergarten class was exploring the garden beds at Overbrook Elementary, one of our Greener Partners “partners.”

And none of it happens by accident.

Because of supporters like you, children across our community are digging into garden beds, tasting fresh foods, asking questions, and discovering that they belong in the natural world.

Because of you, Greener Partners ensures that families have greater access to nourishing fresh food.

Because of you, Greener Partners’ partner schools become places not only of learning — but of discovery, courage, and connection.

This spring, will you help create more moments like this?

A gift today will help expand equitable fresh food access, support urban farming initiatives, and bring hands-on learning experiences to more children throughout our community.
