Teva Tuesday's Tip is here! Today we are looking back to this past summer when we celebrated the season's warmth and beauty with our annual Family Kayak and Canoe Day. More than a dozen families came together for a relaxing paddle along the Huron River where we saw an awe-inspiring amount of turtles 🐢, birds🦅, snakes🐍, fish🐟, and many more wonderful creatures🦋. We completed our day with a classic game of Bracha (Blessing) Bingo for families to explore and find different wonders of nature that would fill up their bingo cards. 🤩
It was a sunny and hot day, so today’s tip is to simply wear your sunscreen if you are going to spend a lot of time outdoors, even if it isn’t supposed to be too sunny! We are meant to be outside and enjoying the fresh air, but it should not be at the expense of our skin🥵! What can bees teach us about community, resilience, and our relationship with the Earth?

At the Adamah Detroit Community Summit, experience Torah of the Hive as part of A Taste of Adamah: hands-on workshops that bring Jewish environmental wisdom to life through learning, creativity, and connection.

Join local leaders Risa Alyson Cooper (Founding Director of Shoresh and Adamah Farm Fellowship Alum), Judy Front (Temple Emanu-El Green Team), and Mallory Shiffman (Adamah Detroit Advisory Council) for a sweet exploration of the hive. Through a live honey extraction
demonstration, guided honey tasting, and Jewish teachings inspired by the remarkable world of bees, you’ll discover how pollinators model interdependence, stewardship, and collective responsibility.

This is more than a workshop. It’s an opportunity to connect with extraordinary local leaders, deepen your relationship with the natural world, and experience the kind of meaningful community that Adamah cultivates across Detroit.

We are privileged to be part of The Jewish Federation of Detroit's Youth Professionals Network, working alongside talented and dedicated educators, advisors, programming staff, and leaders. Our expertise may not be in cake decorating (but DM us about environmental ed, leadership development, and climate action!). We didn't win the cake decorating contest, but we are proud to have created the best Lorax cake around! After all, the Lorax speaks for the trees 🌳🪾 (pic in comments ⬇️)

Happy Teva Tuesday! Today we are looking back to this past Sunday when we partnered with our friends at Dor Hadash religious school for a beautiful Tishrei morning🌞 program to celebrate Sukkot! We helped the participants to build their own local Lulavs (Frond from Date Palm Tree) as well as build little animal shelters, pairing the learnings with Jewish values such as Hachnasat Orchim (Welcoming the guest) as well as Bal Taschit (Do not destroy). We also helped to reduce carbon emissions by making our own lulavs since no trees had to be intentionally cut down for them to be made. Therefore, today’s tip is to practice one or both of those Jewish values. Make a stranger feel welcome by giving them a friendly smile or holding a door open for them! Eliminate waste by reusing a product! Do whatever to ensure that you start your new year off on the best possible foot.
