Thank you to everyone who joined us for Politics & Pinot in Grand Rapids last week.

State Representative Kristian Grant led a genuine conversation about the policy priorities affecting Michigan’s small businesses, and the people in that room made it worth having. Business owners, advocates, community leaders — we don’t take your time for granted.

Stay connected with us at blackbizalliance.com for more events coming your way.

We're thrilled to welcome Michelle Cahoon to the Michigan Black Business Alliance as Executive Assistant to the CEO.

Michelle brings five years of nonprofit experience, including executive-level support within the education and literacy sector. She holds a Bachelor's in English Literature and an MFA in Creative Writing. She is currently pursuing a Public Policy Leadership Credential from Harvard Kennedy School—a combination that speaks directly to the work we do every day.

She hit the ground running on day one, joining us at the Culture Classic and already embodying the community spirit that makes MBBA what it is.

Michelle, we're honored to have you. Welcome to the team.

If you see Michelle around the Hub or at an upcoming event, make sure you say hello and welcome her to the MBBA family.

Last week, MBBA member Portia Powell of One Detroit Credit Union pulled up to the Mason & Starr Morning Show on 105.9 Kiss FM—and brought 20+ years of banking expertise with her. Portia is the President and CEO of One Detroit Credit Union. She previously managed Municipal Banking Operations at Chemical Bank, led Huntington Bank's Lift Local Program helping execute their $4 billion commitment to underserved communities, and spearheaded TCF Bank's Minority and Women Owned Business Initiative.

Every week, we bring an MBBA member to the mic to share their story. Catch us every Tuesday morning at 9:30 AM.

Ken Chandler pulled up to the Black Biz Hub on his own time, ready to roll up his sleeves and contribute. No event, no ask — just a member who believes in the work and shows up for it.

Ken is the founder of For My Brothers with Daughters, a nonprofit focused on strengthening the bond between fathers and their daughters and building a support network for families in our community. The same heart that drives that mission is what brought him through our doors.

We are grateful for members like Ken who remind us why community-centered work matters. If you want to learn more about For My Brothers With Daughters or support their mission, visit brotherswithdaughters.org.
