The Metropolitan Detroit Alliance of Black School Educators (MDABSE) proudly celebrates one of our dedicated members, Nickeyta Fisher, for representing Michigan at the NABSE-Midwest 12th Regional Educational Conference in Ohio.

Under the conference theme, "Empowering Excellence: Elevating Educators. Enriching Futures,", Nickeyta co-facilitated the engaging parent workshop:

Michigan Co-Design Lab: Parents and Staff Building Better Engagement

This impactful session highlighted the importance of authentic partnerships between families and schools, creating opportunities for meaningful collaboration that supports student success.

The MDABSE Teen Leadership Summit was a SUCCESS!

On Saturday, April 18, we witnessed something powerful—our students stepping into their voices, their purpose, and their leadership.

From developing 90-Day Action Plans to engaging in meaningful mentorship and building advocacy skills, our students didn’t just participate… they led.

They spoke with confidence
They shared bold ideas
They embraced their future

This is what it looks like when we move students from consumers of education to architects of their own future.

Thank you to every member, mentor, and supporter who showed up and poured into our youth. Your presence made the difference.

This is just the beginning.

Making an Impact—One Scholar at a Time!

During the week of March 16–March 20, 2026, MDABSE hosted Literacy Circles under the leadership of Principal Monica Thompson at Jefferson-Douglass Academy Pk–8, and the impact was powerful!

Our scholars engaged in read-alouds that sparked thinking, built confidence, and strengthened their love for reading. This is what it looks like when educators come together to uplift our communities.
