Alkebu-lan Village Alkebulan Village has served youth in East Detroit for over 43 years. These principles constitute the Afrikan-centered cultural framework of the Village.

Alkebu-lan Village is an Afrikan-centered community based organization committed to developing and nurturing an environment where families work together to build healthy minds, bodies, and communities. Founded as the Alkebu-lan Martial Arts Federation in 1978, the original purpose of the organization was to provide affordable martial arts training to Afrikan American youth. The Organization has trained over 250,000 individuals in the martial arts since its inception. Over the years the organization has expanded to include youth and adult sports and fitness, leadership training, visual and performing arts, homework assistance and tutoring, youth entrepreneurship training and community service.Alkebu-lan Village organizes efforts around the realization of its mission toward attainment of its vision. Its organizing mission is:Alkebu-lan Village is an Afrikan Centered community based organization committed to developing and nurturing an environment where families work together to build health minds, bodies, and communities.Mission-related efforts are directed toward creating a “thriving and self-sustaining community of families, businesses and institutions that embrace a shared mission as a result of our endeavors.” With vision in sight and equipped with an aggressive, yet attainable mission, Alkebu-lan Village has defined a set of principles to guide the culture of the Village and the actions and efforts that take place therein. The Alkebu‑lan Village extends our deepest gratitude to everyone who came out and supported this weekend’s events. Your energy, commitment, and love for the Village made this an unforgettable celebration of community strength.

To our staff, volunteers, vendors, and every visitor who showed up for the 8th Annual Fun Run in partnership with the KPJ Foundation, thank you for helping us keep this tradition thriving. Your presence fuels our mission and keeps our youth programs strong.

A salute to the dancers attended the “Dancing in the Streets.” Even though the weather pushed us indoors, you transformed the space and kept the spirit alive.

Mfundishi Marvis Cofield sends his heartfelt appreciation to everyone who attended his book signing. The event was a tremendous success — we sold out! More books will be available Thursday evening for anyone interested in purchasing additional copies.

Last but not least, I want to give a special shout‑out to Merton Hall and Keyon Vanover, whose names were mistakenly omitted from the book. Their years of unwavering support, dedication, and commitment to the Village deserve the highest recognition. We honor you both.

Again thank you Village family, for showing up, showing love, and showing what community truly looks like.

The run begins promptly at 9:00 AM, followed by a community Dance in the Streets celebration from 10:00 AM–1:30 PM featuring DJ RocWitMoe, dance contests, food, youth activities, a book signing, and more!
