Bay College and Northern Michigan University Establish Direct Admission Program to Strengthen Transfer Pathway for Upper Peninsula Students

Bay de Noc Community College (Bay College) and Northern Michigan University (NMU) have entered into a Direct Admission Program agreement designed to make the transition from community college to a bachelor’s degree more seamless for students across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The three-year agreement, executed Sept. 16, 2026, establishes a formal pathway connecting Bay College students with NMU while they complete their studies at Bay. The program is intended to enhance access and affordability, eliminate barriers for transfer students, increase baccalaureate degree attainment, and strengthen connections between students and the NMU community.

Under the Direct Admission Program, students applying to Bay College will have the opportunity to indicate their intention to transfer to NMU in the future. Participation does not obligate a student to transfer to NMU. Students who participate will be admitted to NMU initially in a non-degree undergraduate status while concurrently enrolled at Bay.

This Monday kicked off the first week of the Mt. Pleasant Area Health Careers Pipeline Program. High School students met with their undergraduate and medical school mentors, learned about the program, got acquainted with the building through a scavenger hunt, and began discussing health career pathways!

The Health Careers Pipeline program is hosted by the Mid Central AHEC in collaboration with the Covenant HealthCare College of Medicine at Central Michigan University .

NOW OPEN through Wednesday, October 14, 2026! The National Rural Health Day Essay Contest

In celebration of National Rural Health Day, recognized each year on the third Thursday of November, the Literacy Legacy Fund of Michigan, the Michigan Center for Rural Health (the State Office of Rural Health) and the NMU Center for Rural Health partner and host the National Rural Health Day Essay Contest.

The contest is open to high school seniors who reside AND attend school in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, are college/university bound the fall 2027 semester and intend to pursue a healthcare career in human medicine.
