When you truly understand kindness, you want to teach it. That is exactly what one of our buddies did. She created her own presentation and showed her leadership and initiative skills. She educated her fellow students on the experience of Down syndrome. After the students spent time working on Down syndrome awareness coloring pages. Being able to have these conversations as a group really brings everyone together. This presentation of understanding and leadership is a part of everything it means to be a buddy.

Namaste! This week, buddies participated in adaptive yoga taught by Rachel from Guided by Humanity. Students learned a few Sanskrit words that were translated into different moves and were able to practice different poses in chairs, on the floor, and standing - they each also got to create their own adaptive yoga move.

At our local Denver public schools , our Sammy’s Buddy Program had an engaging and meaningful time together!
Our buddies teamed up with students to make slime, creating a fun, hands-on tactile experience that everyone enjoyed. We also came together to watch the special video created with our Sammy’s Buddy students, which was a great moment of connection and reflection. It was fun calling out the friends we saw in the film.
Students created a fantastic inclusion poster that is now proudly displayed in the hallway for the entire school to see—a powerful reminder of belonging and acceptance. Students signed the letter we wrote to Jennifer Keelin-Chaffin, and we’re excited to see if we receive a response!
It was a wonderful day of creativity, collaboration, and inclusion across both schools.

This week, students at two schools had the fabulous opportunity to partner with King Arthur Baking Company and participate in their “Bake For Good” presentation. The goal of this is to “learn, bake, and share” where students watch an interactive baking demonstration and are given baking kits (courtesy of KA flour) to take home and bake on their own or with family members! Students are encouraged to make 2 items - one to keep and enjoy, and one to share with their local community food bank or food shelter.

Last week, our Executive Director made some new professional buddies by participating in the Project Management Institute. Mile Hi chapter’s Day of Service. With the help of Mike, Liz, and Meredith, we were able to develop effective plans for our organization and the students who participate in our program. We appreciate the expertise that these three provided to lay the groundwork for our future projects.

“Choose to Include,” that's what this buddy meet up was all about. Our buddies created a sign with a positive message that would help students in their school think about how to make everyone feel included. These buddies used their design skills to create this special sign and spread the message of inclusion. Remember to donate your votes on the Mytarget app until the end of March to help our buddies continue their mission of inclusion.

This month, for our schools in the Denver area, we have started Kindness Campaigns. Students will write down on the provided notes when they catch someone in the act of doing something kind. Recognition isn't always necessary when being kind, but our buddies want to show their appreciation for those who go the extra step when taking care of their classmates. The goal of these kindness campaigns is to teach students how to help others without being asked. Being a good person means you will be able to make more buddies and friends. Go out there and help someone in need this month and be an inspiration to others!!

Last week, our buddies had to put the pieces together when it came to teamwork. January 29th was National Puzzle Day, and our buddies teamed up and learned to work together! Solving puzzles is not only fun, but a full brain workout! Having these buddies work together to fit the pieces correctly teaches them how to not only problem solve but also listen to other people's ideas. With these skills, they can look forward to solving how to make the world a more inclusive place.
