❤️ Huge news for women’s heart health! ❤️

As we are in final preparations for the 75th Biennial Alpha Phi Convention, awards included, we are absolutely thrilled to officially announce the recipients of our 2026 Heart to Heart Grants! Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors and volunteers, Alpha Phi Foundation is awarding $125,000 to support groundbreaking advancements in preventive medicine and cardiovascular care.

🔬 $100,000 Clinical Grant: Brigham and Women's Hospital. Led by Dr. Sophie Gu, MD, PhD, this revolutionary project uses AI to identify early signs of cardiovascular risk during routine mammograms—turning a standard test into a powerful tool for both breast and heart health.

🗣️ $25,000 Community Grant: Prairie View A&M University. Led by Dr. Jacklyn Sanders, the “Rhythm of the Heart” program focuses on education, early detection, and self-advocacy to bridge gender gaps in late-diagnosed adult congenital heart defects across six Texas counties.

For 70 years, Alpha Phi's dedication to women’s heart health has fueled meaningful progress. We are so proud to support these women-led scientific initiatives that will save lives and reshape the future of women’s everyday care!

Today, we are honoring Kristen Cheng-Bosson (Eta Chi-Bishop's), a dedicated volunteer whose time and talent were an instrumental contribution to the team of Alpha Phis that established Alpha Phi Foundation Canada as a separate but associated entity. Because of her leadership and the dedication of our Canadian sisters, our "High Ideals" now have a permanent, formalized home in the North.

The Impact of Alpha Phi Foundation Canada:

Educational Empowerment: The Foundation is committed to providing scholarships and grants that help Canadian members pursue their academic and professional aspirations at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

A Record-Breaking Start: In its very first year, Alpha Phi Foundation Canada surpassed all expectations, raising over $55,000 through the collective generosity of Canadian chapters and a dedicated base of first-time, monthly, and returning donors.

A Global Perspective: This expansion allows us to better support our international scholarship applicants, ensuring that the "Alpha Phi experience" remains a lifelong partnership for sisters in both Canada and the United States.

As one of our scholarship readers recently shared, "It's been so great to learn everything about our scholarship applicants from both Canada and the United States. It's an honor."

Kristen, thank you for your leadership in building this bridge. To our Canadian sisters: thank you for being a vital part of our 70-year story. We are truly just getting started!

As we wrap up National Volunteer Month, we wanted to close out the final Tuesday of April with a new series: Time, Talent & Treasure Tuesday. We’ve been saving this particular feature to kick things off because if anyone is the epitome of giving their "all" to our sisterhood, it is Linda Gardner Massie (Delta Alpha–East Carolina).

Linda is an extraordinary leader whose impact spans decades and every level of our organization. As a past International President and Foundation Chair, she has been a vital architect of Alpha Phi’s growth and success. Her Vibrant Legacy is a masterclass in how one sister’s lifelong dedication can shape the future for thousands more.

Linda has always viewed her membership as a call to action. She describes her service as "a challenge to all Alpha Phis to give back in whatever way they can." For Linda, the Fraternity was never just about social connection—it was about being surrounded by women who stood for something more.

"I believed Alpha Phi would challenge me to be a better person, and it has," Linda shares.

To honor her years of international service, Linda’s family chose to ensure her impact would be felt for another century. In a surprise announcement at Convention 2012, her daughter, Caitlin Massie King (Eta Omicron–Virginia Tech), introduced the endowment of the Linda Gardner Massie Scholarship. This fund provides permanent support for outstanding collegiate leaders from both Linda’s and Caitlin’s chapters, turning a lifetime of devotion into a permanent resource for the next generation.

As her chapter sister Brenda Sanders Mullins put it, Linda is a woman of "commitment, integrity, and heart." Through this scholarship, the Massie family ensures that future recipients will embody Linda’s best attributes:

🎓 Being successful professionally and personally.

♥ Staying grateful and giving back to Alpha Phi.

🎉 And most importantly—having fun!

Linda reminds us that when we lead with our hearts, we aren't just supporting an organization—we are investing in a family that adds value to our lives forever.

Tomorrow's the big day and today we're celebrating a sister whose leadership has spanned nearly every facet of our organization: Susan McNeice (Epsilon Nu–Delaware).

Susan’s journey of service is the definition of dedication. Having served on the Fraternity’s International Executive Board from 2010–2014 and the Foundation Board since 2018, she has spent over a decade shaping the strategic direction of Alpha Phi. As her term concludes this June, we look back on a Vibrant Legacy built on professional excellence and a profound love for her sisters.

With a distinguished professional background as an executive and consultant in the global telecommunications and IT space, Susan has always brought a high level of expertise to our committees and the Leading With Heart Campaign Steering Committee. Yet, for Susan, the most significant impact of Alpha Phi is personal.

"Alpha Phi taught me so very much about what it is to be a leader: the responsibility, the honor, and the reward," Susan shares. "I am who I am today because of Alpha Phi."

Susan is a dedicated champion for her home chapter, having started and maintained strong support for an endowed scholarship for the women of Epsilon Nu. By investing in the sisters at the University of Delaware, she ensures that the same leadership lessons she learned as a collegian are available to the next generation of northern New England leaders.

Susan’s extensive volunteerism—from high-level boards to specific advisory groups—proves that when you believe an organization has made you who you are, there is no limit to how much you can give back.

Susan reminds us that the "reward" of leadership is seeing the next generation succeed.

As we approach the final days of our countdown, we honor a sister whose financial expertise and strategic vision have fortified the future of our sisterhood: Claire Costin (Omega–Texas).

Serving as the Foundation Board Treasurer, Claire’s term concludes this June 2026. Her tenure has been defined by incredible growth; she was a steady hand through the historic Leading With Heart campaign and a primary architect in the creation of our current strategic plan. Because of Claire’s diligence, the Foundation’s assets are managed with the utmost care, ensuring every dollar is put to its best possible use.

Honoring the Past, Investing in the Future
Claire’s commitment to Alpha Phi spans from the boardroom to the local chapter. A past recipient of the Fraternity’s Outstanding Advisor Award, she understands that the "High Ideals" of our sisterhood are preserved through both mentorship and philanthropy.

Claire’s passion for her home chapter was the catalyst for a major milestone for Texas Alpha Phis. As a lead initiator and steadfast supporter of the chapter’s scholarship fund, she has ensured that the legacy of the Omega chapter remains strong:

"I’m so excited to support the establishment of an endowed scholarship for Texas Alpha Phi women, and cannot wait to see what they accomplish in the years to come."

A Strategic Heart
Claire proves that a Vibrant Legacy is built on a foundation of sound strategy and deep love. By ensuring our funds are handled with excellence, she has paved the way for thousands of sisters to receive scholarships and leadership training. Her impact will be felt long after her term as Treasurer concludes, as the endowed funds she helped shepherd continue to grow and support sisters for the next 100 years.

Thank you, Claire, for your brilliant stewardship and your unwavering heart for Alpha Phi!

As we enter the final stretch of our countdown, we are thrilled to feature a sister who is preparing to take the helm of our organization: Janis Coughlin-Piester (Theta Kappa–Rochester).

Janis is a longtime volunteer whose journey with the Foundation is a testament to the power of steady, dedicated service. From her work on the Development Advisory Group and the Leadership Grant Advisory Group to her time as a Director and Executive Committee member, Janis has spent years strengthening the infrastructure of our sisterhood. This June, she will officially step into her new role as the Foundation Board Chair for the 2026-2028 biennium.

For Janis, leadership is about more than a title—it’s about the continuous evolution of how one serves. Her "Vibrant Legacy" is built on a foundation of strategic growth and a deep respect for the work that has come before her.

"I am incredibly humbled and excited to step into the role of Board Chair," Janis shares. "My focus will remain steadfast on advancing our mission—empowering Alpha Phis through leadership and philanthropy. I look forward to working alongside this talented Board to serve our sisterhood and make a lasting difference in the lives of women everywhere.”

As she prepares for her term, Janis remains focused on the power of partnership. She recognizes that the Foundation’s success is a collective effort, powered by the synergy between our talented staff, the Fraternity, and the incredible generosity of our donors. Janis reminds us that when we step into new roles and redefine how we serve the missions we care about, we create a ripple effect of impact that touches every sister.

We are so grateful for Janis’s leadership and her heart for our "High Ideals." Please join us in congratulating her as she prepares to lead us into this next exciting biennium!
