Day 4 of RepresentAsian Matters: Rooted in Joy is an invitation to Joy & Curiosity 🎧💭. We are joined by Alex Tran (she/her), an audio engineer and diviner, and Christine Young (she/her), a cultural shop owner and herbalist.

We are exploring the question: "How can trusting our intuition and focusing on the present guide us to joy?". Alex and Christine guide our youth to trust their own unique voices and stay present in their own magic.

Swipe to learn how Alex and Christine root themselves in curiosity and nature! 🎋

This year holds a special milestone: not only are Naiya (she/her), Elise (she/her), Reina (she/her), Eleanor (she/they), Emmy (she/her), and Jane (she/her). They are kicking off Day 1 of our summer program by leading our exploration of joy and connection, with the guiding question: “How does experiencing joy bring me closer to others and myself?”.

From tennis courts to theatre stages, they bring a foundational energy of our summer experience. They are the leaders and older siblings who show up with honesty, presence, and a whole lot of heart throughout the entire week. 💜
Swipe to see the joys and the home dishes that fill their souls! 🍜😋

Asked our mentors what they needed as teenagers, and the answer is simple.

They talked about being understood.

💬“I needed someone who could really listen to me… understand my background, my culture… and validate that what I was doing made sense.”
💬”I needed someone to listen.”
💬“I needed somebody who understood me.”

Now, they are becoming that person for someone else in the Asian Girls Ignite Mentorship Program. 👯‍♀️

And our mentees describe what that means:
💬“I found solidarity.”
💬“I found someone I can’t imagine my life without.”
💬“I found a positive role model who shares experiences and passions.”
💬“I found connection and community.”

Our mentorship program is rooted in the belief that navigating identity, cultural pressures, and personal growth can support intentional relationships where youth feel seen, heard, and held.

It looks like consistency.
Shared experience.
Mutual growth.

📋Cohort 2 is now open and applications close May 18!

Remember your first week of high school? 🎒
The hallway that felt too big.
The lunch table you weren’t sure you’d fit into.
Trying to balance who you are with who everyone expects you to be.

For many AANHPI students, that transition comes with extra layers.

Honoring our history by mentoring our future. ✊

This Women’s History Month, we’re reflecting on the power of being seen. For many of us growing up, AANHPI role models were far and few between.

The Lotus Collective is changing that narrative. 📖

We are a community of mentors who show up with courage and compassion so that the youth of today never have to wonder if they belong in spaces of leadership. They’ll know they do, because they have you in their corner.

Ready to make history? Our Mentorship Program applications are LIVE. Apply to join the Lotus Collective to apply to be a mentor: https://www.asiangirlsignite.org/lotus-collective

If you’re wondering what your child might carry with them after this summer, here’s what we’ve seen. ⬇️
✨ At least one new connection who feels familiar
✨ An AANHPI woman who shows them what’s possible
✨ Confidence speaking in a group
✨ Understanding for who they are becoming
✨ A memory connected to courage

One summer, a student shared:
“I met 2 new friends who I was able to relate to on a level that I’m usually not with non Asian girls and it felt very special.”

And last year, a parent shared:
“Thank you for a wonderful week of camp. From the activities, speakers, venue, food, swag…this is probably the best summer camp my child will ever attend each year. But it’s also an incredible camp because of the inclusion, belonging, and thought you instill in these girls. The feeling of community and that they matter, and their voice matters.Thank you for introducing them to other Asian women leaders so they can see a future for themselves, for teaching them tools to help them discover themselves and their strengths, and for fostering confidence that they can take with them when they go back to middle school next year. We are so grateful for this organization and for each of you who work so hard throughout the year to support these girls.”

If this feels aligned for your family, we would love to welcome your child. 💜

POV: You and your mentor took this way too seriously. 📸✨

Mentorship at AGI looks like:
• Real conversations
• Random photo moments
• Talking through things you don’t always say out loud
• Someone who reminds you you’re not the only one

You’re matched intentionally.
You meet consistently.
You build trust over time.

It’s having someone in your corner who gets it. 💜

They didn’t just talk about leadership, they ran a café. ☕💜

After 3 sessions of planning, brainstorming, and learning from Chelsey Solemsaas (she/her) and Hannah Cambronero (she/her) of Coffee Sarap, Asian Girls Ignite high school students launched their very own pop-up: Giveaway Café.

They:
☕ Created the name and logo
☕ Designed the menu
☕ Chose four organizations to donate to
☕ Learned operations and customer service
☕ Assigned roles and ran the café themselves

On event day, you could feel the nerves.
But you could also see something shift.

Voices that shook in the first few minutes became grounded.
When something went wrong, they adjusted.
When someone felt overwhelmed, another stepped in.

They didn’t wait for adults to fix it, they handled it together.

In just two hours, they raised $1,759 for causes they care about. 🫂
💝 Kaizen Food Rescue ()
💝 Rocky Mountain PBS ()
💝 Colorado Rapid Response Network ()
💝 Child Mind Institute ()

This is what leadership in action looks like.

Café for a Day is part of our High School Program, where identity work turns into visible, real-world leadership. Students move from reflecting on who they are to organizing, collaborating, and leading in front of their community.

We are so grateful to Chelsey and Hannah of Coffee Sarap for modeling values-driven entrepreneurship and trusting our students with their space. And to everyone who showed up and stood in line for youth-led impact.

When young people are given structure, mentorship, and trust, they rise.

It’s Jane² 💜

Their story began with antique shopping and shared plates of good food (of course!) while being silly and simply being girls together.

Somewhere between fun treats and setting a goal to learn Cantonese, something deeper formed.

For mentee Jane (she/her), mentorship meant exploring her Asian identity with support in every part of her life.

For mentor Jane (she/her), it meant reflecting on who she was in high school and learning to be gentler and more confident in embracing herself too.

That’s what mentorship at Asian Girls Ignite looks like!
Mutual growth. 🌱
Intergenerational care. 🫂
Belonging in action. 💞

This International Women’s Day, we’re thinking about the women who help our students feel safe to take up space. 💜

At RepresentAsian Matters 2025, our storytellers brought more than inspiration. They brought lived experience, care, and language for things middle schoolers often carry quietly.

✨Self-affirmation and community care with Christina Ifurung and Melissa Mooney, exploring how caring for ourselves is part of stepping into our power.
✨Family history and embodied strength with Joie Ha and Akemi Tsutsui-Kunitake, reflecting on honoring trailblazers and paving our own path through story and movement.
✨Story-gathering and community reflection with Abi Clark and Tran Nguyen-Wills, exploring how we find our place and how learning about others teaches us about ourselves.
✨Collective weaving with Hue Helen Nguyen, showing that our individual threads create something stronger when intertwined.
✨Legacy and dreaming with Yu Ning Chan and Anh Phan, reminding students that reflection, creativity, and care shape the mark we leave behind.

When your child hears stories like these, they don’t have to explain themselves first. Instead, they get to belong and grow in a community that gets them.

RepresentAsian Matters, our summer program, is designed for emotional safety. Small groups. Near-peer high school camp guides. Intentional community. 🌱
