Delaware Nature Society is an approved certifier with New Castle County as part of their Pollinator Pathway Ordinance to encourage the creation of native pollinator and rain gardens. With the DelNature certification, a pollinator garden may cover more than 25% of a front yard and more than 50% of a rear yard. All properties must continue to comply with New Castle County codes.

Native plants can be ornamental and comply with local codes; it's all about choosing the right plant for your garden! Explore our plant selection with both straight species and cultivars to fit your space. Come chat with one of our plant experts at our Native Plant sale, where beauty meets purpose.

This Saturday: Ephemerals & Spring Garden Tour in Easton, MD!

Come see some of our areaโ€™s lovely native spring plants in season showcased in shade and swale plantings.

Note: The recent heat wave has forced many early ephemerals to bloom already, so the flowers we will likely see this weekend may be more of the other spring bloomers. Ephemeral foliage should be looking very nice still!

Ephemeral plants bloom early and for a short period time before the canopies above them begin to grow again. Hot temperatures too early in the season can put them out of sync with their pollinators and force them out and back into the ground too soon.

You must request an RSVP on our website calendar. Space is very limited. Address will be provided after your RSVP is approved.

๐ŸŒผ Curious about native plants but not sure where to start?

Wild Ones Delmarva will be joining us for Garden Day to share information and resources focused on native plants and sustainable landscaping here on Delmarva.

If youโ€™ve been thinking about adding more pollinator-friendly or regionally adapted plants to your space, this is a great opportunity to connect and learn more.

Hooray for New Castle County residents!

In 2024, New Castle County passed the Pollinator at Pathway Ordinance to encourage the creation of native pollinator and rain gardens. Delaware Nature Society is an approved certifier with NCC, and our Certified Wildlife Habitat Application now includes a section specifically for New Castle County residents.

With DelNature certification as a pollinator-benefiting garden or landscape, a pollinator garden may cover more than 25% of a front yard and more than 50% of a rear yard. All properties must continue to comply with New Castle County codes.

To learn more, follow the link below to our Garden for Wildlife page, which includes links to the NCC ordinance and applicable codes.
