The Volunteer Services Council for Denton State Supported Living Center celebrated our volunteers Wednesday during a luncheon at the Greater Denton Arts Council - one of our many friends in the Denton community. We were honored that Serve Denton CEO Pat Smith gave a heartfelt keynote address and we were thrilled that his son - Tim Smith - one of our board members was on hand to give him a worthy introduction. We honored all our volunteers and gave out years of service certificates to those who reached certain milestones. We were thrilled when Denton SSLC Director Nancy Condon awarded the Outstanding Program Innovation Award from DSSLC for The Nest - the brainchild of board members Tricia Wentrcek, Tammy Shaw, Joanne Moses and Stephanie Kithas. And to top off the best afternoon was the presentation of appreciation to our favorite of all time - Neil Sperry. What a treat to be in his presence. Thank you to all the volunteers, interns and staff who facilitate volunteerism at DSSLC. We have lots of special days at DSSLC, but to all those in attendance, they can attest that it was one of the most special of all days. Thank you to Joanne Moses and Tammy Shaw for chairing the luncheon. We see all you volunteers - whether you sew up a storm making clothing protectors, sorting donations, addressing holiday cards, learning how to be the best nurses, occupational therapists and dental hygienists, dietitians, and musicians by volunteering your time. The list goes on and on. We see you and appreciate you. xox
