Sapphire's story is one we will never forget. She's a stunning, all-white Husky with a wild heart, a love for adventure and a serious talent for finding her way out of just about anything. And if there's one thing we know for certain, it's that this beautiful girl deserves a happily ever after that doesn't end with a broken promise.
Sapphire first came to FDHS back in January as a stray who was never reclaimed. After nearly three months in our care, we thought we'd finally found her the loving, responsible forever home she'd been waiting for. Unfortunately, the happy ending was just not the reality we had dreamed for her. Shortly after her adoption, Sapphire got loose in another county. Her adopter never contacted us, and our girl was left to fend for herself. For FIVE long months, Sapphire survived out in the elements, lost and alone, while community members and the Williams County Dog Warden worked to bring her to safety.
When Sapphire finally made her way back to FDHS, our hearts broke. She was thin, matted, wide-eyed and terrified. As she began to recognize her surroundings, it was almost as if she realized she was safe. She was HOME.
With plenty of TLC, Sapphire has made an amazing recovery, and we're ready to help her write a new chapter. This time, we're determined to make sure her next home is truly her last.
Sapphire is a Husky through and through. She needs an active, breed-experienced home that understands her drive to run and explore. Multiple walks or runs each day, secure handling and responsible management will be essential. This girl can break a tie-out and clear a fence like it's nothing, so a typical backyard setup simply won't cut it. She's housebroken, keeps a spotless kennel and has so much potential with the right home. She does have a higher prey drive and can be selective with other dogs.
Sapphire has already spent far too much of her life fighting to survive. She deserves a family who will protect her, understand her and never give up on her when things get difficult. We can't change what happened to her, but we can make sure her future looks different. Her first chance didn't work out. Her second chance brought her back to safety. Now, we're searching for the forever home she should have had all along.
We promised Sapphire we'd get it right this time.
