CHRISTMAS IS COMING!
Hard to believe when it is 90 degrees outside.
The HAD Christmas party is December 7, 2026.
We need a some teams of volunteers to do the following. Great opportunity for Sunday schools, students, etc. to get involved.
THE SARAN WRAP BALL GAME is a fun game where each person has 30 seconds to unwrap layers of plastic wrap and keep any prizes that fall out. Adapting this game for homeless adults requires thoughtful choices that are practical, portable, and of value for people experiencing homelessness.
PRACTICAL IDEAS FOR HOMELESS ADULTS.
When customizing the ball, focus on items that easily fit in pockets or a backpack, providing immediate comfort or utility:
• Outer/Early Layers (Small & Fun): Individual wrapped candies, gum, mints, slim jims, cough drops, and pocket-size packages of tissues.
• Middle Layers (Useful & Comfort Items): Travel-size hand sanitizer, lip balm, nail clippers, heavy-duty thermal, pocket notebooks with pens, toothbrushes/toothpaste, rain ponchos, etc.
• Deep/Inner Layers (Higher Value): Fast-food gift cards ($5–$10 for nearby spots like McDonalds, Taco Bell, Subway, etc.), warm gloves, small flashlights with extra batteries, hand/body/foot warmers, gift cards ($10-$25) Walmart, Visa, etc.), cash (small bills)
How to Build the Ball
1. Start at the Center: Roll your best grand prize (like a gift card or cash) up tightly inside the first few layers of plastic wrap.
2. Layer and Add Items: Unroll a bit of plastic wrap, place a prize down, and wrap over it. Every few turns, drop in another small item.
3. Change Directions: Frequently rotate the ball 90 degrees as you wrap. This builds an uneven, spherical shape rather than a long cylinder, making it much more challenging to unravel.
4. Secure the Outside Make the outer layers dense so the first person doesn't immediately uncover a huge prize.
5. Stuck on how to start? YouTube is your friend.
Thanks to all of our crafty people for helping to bring the Christmas spirit to our underserved community.
