Keith Jackson Leadership joined us this morning as our guest speaker. It was a great morning filled with motivation, inspiration, and practical leadership insights.
One message that especially resonated with our group was the importance of being "lifters" rather than "leaners”people who lift others up, add value, and make a positive impact wherever they go.
Thank you, Keith, for sharing your wisdom and encouraging us to lead with purpose. It's a message we'll carry with us throughout the week and beyond.

See you tomorrow 😀

What an amazing District 6860 & 6880 Rotary Meeting this Saturday! Made some new friends and rekindled the goal of community and collaboration with Clubs from Jackson, Dothan, Cullman, and Hunstville Alabama.

Looking forward to deepening the relationships and support we can all provide each other and our communities!! 🙂

I wonder if Rotary Club of Decatur Daybreak won any awards? More details to come next week.

Weekly Meeting Recap - May 20th, 2026

What a fun morning! We kicked things off listening to "Everyday People" and Cindy Anderson’s Moment of Reflection had us laughing and thinking at once, reminding everyone to surround yourself with people who let you be your authentic self (“if people are like cilantro to you, don’t hang out with them”, be the sun, not the salt).

Breakfast was courtesy of Hansen & Beck, Alex and Robin Head Williams celebrated their one‑year anniversary!

Our guest, D. Andrew “Andy” Scott, U.S. Forest Service took us on a tour of William B. Bankhead National Forest - from the Sipsey Wilderness and its rare glades, wetlands, and caves to the forest restoration work bringing native species back, the 3,336 miles of streams, and the surprising fact that Bankhead shelters more threatened and endangered species than most protected forests.

Andy’s passion for water, wildlife, and trails had everyone picturing primitive campsites, birding routes, and redesigned bridges at Sipsey and Thompson Creek - perfect fodder for weekend adventures and community support. All in all: music, meaning, a little cilantro wisdom, and a big dose of nature‑powered inspiration.

Weekly Meeting Recap Post — May 13th, 2026

This morning at the Alabama Center for the Arts we welcomed Mayor Kent Lawrence, who delivered a clear, community‑first message under the theme “In Decatur, We Are Better Together”. The Mayor emphasized collaboration, practical planning, and public safety, a vision that aligns directly with Rotary’s commitment to service and civic partnership. A lighthearted moment kicked off the meeting when Past President Gay Maloney presented Mayor Lawrence with the legendary Mark Maloney International President logo tie during Happy Bucks, a fun reminder of the warm relationship between our club and City leadership.

Mayor Lawrence highlighted several priorities that will shape Decatur’s future:

• Public safety: a proactive push to reduce traffic incidents by enforcing speeding, red‑light, and stop‑sign violations.

• Cross‑department collaboration: breaking down silos so city departments coordinate more effectively.

• Major investment momentum: roughly $1.5 billion in projects moving forward to improve infrastructure, traffic flow, and economic opportunity.

• Signature projects: Major progress on the 6th Avenue improvements!

• Community facilities: the new Decatur Rec Center is on time and on budget with a planned Labor Day opening with a walking track, four basketball courts, beautiful glass views and so much more! On top of of that we heard of the in the works converted 50,000 sq ft of climate‑controlled event space 🙂

• Workforce development: new training programs for city staff to strengthen leadership and reduce operational silos.

Kent Lawrence for Mayor of Decatur’s message that City of Decatur, Alabama - Government grows stronger when we listen, partner, and plan together reinforces Rotary’s role as a civic collaborator. His focus on safety, infrastructure, and inclusive economic growth gives our club concrete opportunities to support community priorities through service, advocacy, and volunteerism.

Want to help shape Decatur’s future? Volunteer with our community projects, bring a guest to one of our weekly Rotary meetings, or message us to learn how your skills can support local initiatives.
