We are excited to highlight some of our participating artists in these coming weeks for the Pence Gallery's Art Auction, which opens September 5th-26th. Artist Aina Clotas, based in Half Moon Bay, is new to the Pence's auction this year, and we are thrilled to include her pieces "Shanna" & "Reflections."

"Although my paintings are mainly figurative, I believe there is no figuration without abstraction. Every picture I create reflects a moment that took place somewhere at a certain time. I have always been fascinated with art that contains story telling like cinema, literature, or music. Coming up next weekend! Stay cool during the hot summer days with our first Ice Cream Social just for Members. On August 29, enjoy seven flavors of Gunther's premium ice creams in waffle cones provided by Rich’s Ice Cream, and loads of toppings.

We'll be doing a free giveaway of new Pence stickers and special 50th Anniversary prints. Also, we will host a fun trivia contest with a prize. Listen to live music by Cold Shot and stop by to help us celebrate our 50th Anniversary!

The Pence’s annual Art Auction offers the best in contemporary art, all up for display at the Gallery and online for silent auction bidding from Sept. 5th-26th. Preview fantastic sculptures, paintings, photography, textiles, and more by 100+ local & regional artists in person at the Pence and online at bit.ly/penceartauction. Bidding opens online at midnight on Sept. 5th and closes at 8 PM PST on Sept. 26th.

Join us for our Art Auction Party on Sept. 26th and enjoy delicious food by Dos Coyotes Border Café and Nugget Markets, fine wines by Turkovich Family Wines, live samba and bossa nova music by Boca do Rio, themed gift baskets to win, and the bidding finale. Sign up now! Beginning September 1st, this 5-week Intermediate Watercolor workshop with Misuk Goltz will focus on using your brushes to their full potential and practicing diverse hand motions to achieve painterly, expressive watercolor paintings. Students will learn how to distribute different values to create balanced and sophisticated artwork while painting various subjects.

Please note that this class is intended for participants who have previous experience with watercolor techniques and color blending. The use of high-quality watercolor materials is strongly recommended to achieve the best results.

Congratulations to Susan von Borstel in winning the Public Choice Award in our community art show, Exhibit It! Her lovely oil painting, "Silent Accord," received the most votes by visitors to the gallery. Thank you to everyone who participated in voting and came to see this year's fun display of local talent.
