California: a Salmon Society?

This talk will focus on the history of salmon and people in Northern California, how that changed following European settlement and what we are doing now through science, management and outreach to help salmon populations recover and reconnect communities with their local ecosystems.

Dr. Carson Jeffres is a senior researcher and field and lab director at the UC Davis Center for Watershed Sciences. A fish biologist and watershed scientist, he studies how native fish—particularly California salmon—use and benefit from healthy and restored habitats.

Join us next Thursday (October 15) at the Veterans Memorial Theater and, not only will you get to see the film, you can also join in with a Q&A with the filmmakers, AND meet NorCal Bat's ambassador bats!

The bats have blessed us with their presence in the past and it's always an honor to get to spend time with actual bats after watching them on the big screen. Doors open at 6pm, the screening starts at 6:30pm. Costumes are very much encouraged, especially those with a bat and vampire theme!

Yolo Basin Foundation had a great time out on the water yesterday to celebrate the launch of the Webb Tract Wetland Restoration Project.

As a liaison to the DeltaConservancy Board, we help provide input on restoration projects like this one. Webb Tract will restore thousands of acres of wetland and upland habitat, creating important habitat for wildlife while helping address some of the Delta’s long-standing environmental challenges.

It was also great to see friends and partners, including Wade Crowfoot of CA Natural Resources Agency and Meghan Hertel of CA Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, and to celebrate the work being led by Metropolitan Water District and the Delta Conservancy.

We’re excited to see this project get underway and grateful to be part of the conversation about the future of the Delta.

A shout-out to the 35 photographers and painters who generously contributed a piece of their work to YBF's auction! Thank you! This year we have a special treat! We are auctioning off a bit of YBF history - five pieces of what is known to YBF as the "mural trailer." For over a decade, our education trailer displayed a wetland mural that was used as a learning tool and beautiful backdrop for the thousands of schoolchildren who experience the Discover the Flyway field trip program. When it was replaced, pieces were kept, and 5 are in our auction this year. We are so grateful to all of the artists who participated in creating such an amazing piece.
