🐸 RIBBET RIBBET (translation: May's Homeschool Program is just ONE WEEK away!)

Frogs, toads, and salamanders might seem small, but they tell a big story about our planet. Amphibians live in both water and land, with sensitive skin that makes them an early warning sign of environmental trouble. When their numbers drop, it’s often a signal that pollution, habitat loss, or climate change is affecting entire ecosystems. Right now, amphibian populations are declining around the world, and understanding why could help protect the future of our environment. Join us to discover how these fascinating creatures can reveal the health of our world and what we can do to help.

🐢 Oneida is in the home stretch!

This past Friday, Oneida had her sutures removed from her incision site! She also had her feeding tube removed from her neck. We can tell she is feeling free and unobstructed having the tube removed.

She was also able to take her first full bath in almost eight weeks! Oneida will need to spend at least one more week in her medical tank for observation and to let the feeding tube site in her neck heal. She is active and eating, and we are so pleased with how she is doing.

We are hopeful that next week she will be ready to return to her normal enclosure. THANK YOU again to everyone who has been supporting her in her recovery!

🔥Prescribed fire is one of many tools used to manage invasive species and promote biodiversity in the landscape. Nahant Marsh staff periodically burn sections of prairie as part of the maintenance plan.

Last week, we had the unique opportunity to burn an area surrounded by floodwaters, with the primary goals being to set back woody plants encroaching on the prairie and to remove excessive fuels from the landscape. The prairie will be green and full of life in just a couple of weeks following the burn!

A big Earth Day shoutout to Planet 93.9 – Dave & Darren in the Morning for inviting our very own, Victoria, to speak on-air about our mission and upcoming Spring Cleanup in partnership with XStream Cleanup! It was a fun and engaging experience broadcasting our work to thousands across not just the Quad Cities, but literally the entire Planet (pun absolutely intended!) through Planet 93.9’s live stream app.

Thank you Dave, Darren, Ronna, and the Planet 93.9 team for allowing us to share this incredible work through your network. It was a blast!

P.S. – Love Dave & Darren and Planet 93.9? They’ll be on site at Saturday’s XStream Cleanup at Nahant! While registration may be full, you can tune in to 93.9 Saturday at 9am and make plans to volunteer for the event next April!
