The Foundation held its annual scholarship reception on Thursday, June 4 at the Pittsylvania County Community Center. This year we awarded 181 scholarships totaling $412,490 to 165 students from Danville, Pittsylvania County, Halifax County and Caswell County.

Picture 1: Kathy Pichardo was the recipient of the Lawrence R. Dabbs Scholarship. She graduated from Bartlett Yancey High School this spring.

Picture 2: Lauren Torborg was the recipient of the John Watson Daniel Scholarship. She graduated from Tunstall High School this spring.

Picture 3: Amanda Talbott, a student at Virginia Commonwealth University, and Ava Presley, a spring graduate from Tunstall High School, were two of the three recipients of the First Responder-Hero Education Scholarship.

Picture 4: Kathy Pichardo, a spring graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School, was the recipient of the H. Lee Fowlkes Memorial Scholarship for the Arts.

Picture 5: Julia Kent was the recipient of the Diane Marie Gross Scholarship. She is attending the College of William & Mary.

Picture 6: (L-R) Naomi Price and Tikiiya Thomas were the recipients of the Gantsoudes Scholarship this year. Price is attending Norfolk State University and Thomas graduated from George Washington High School this spring.

Mark your calendars for the next free Cannon class in August. The Tuesday, August 18 class, titled Tales from the Crypt (Constitution Avenue): IRS Tools and Tactics to Collect a Delinquent Tax Liability, will focus on estate, gift and income tax liens, transferee liability, personal liability of fiduciaries and tax penalties.

Danville Riverview Rotary is hosting a Paper Shredding Event on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at Woodall Nissan, located at 132 Union Street Bridge.

Bring your old tax forms, outdated documents, financial records, or anything you need securely destroyed. This is a safe, confidential way to clear out clutter and protect your personal information.

There is no charge for shredding, but donations are appreciated and will support our community service projects.

We look forward to seeing you there and helping you shred with confidence!
