Our Women’s Philanthropy Institute members and guests gathered at Hugs Cafe for an inspiring night centered on connection, community, and purpose. Guests enjoyed a thoughtfully curated dinner, paired wines, and meaningful conversations with women who are passionate about creating lasting impact across Dallas. We were also grateful to hear from Hugs founder Ruth Thompson and CEO Lauren Smith about the organization’s growing impact and expansion.

Through WPI, we come together to learn, lead, and invest in initiatives that strengthen our community, proving the power of collective philanthropy in action.

What if your philanthropy could create impact for generations?

While both endowed and non-endowed funds play an important role in supporting the community, endowed funds offer the opportunity to create lasting impact by keeping the principal invested while earnings are granted back year after year. Over time, endowed funds can distribute more than the original gift while continuing to grow and give back.

In this edition of Philanthropy in Focus, Jessica Watts, Chief Partnerships Officer, explores how endowment can help build a legacy of giving, support future generations, and maximize long-term impact.

Learn when endowed giving may make sense and how The Dallas Foundation can help align your philanthropy with your goals.

Strong advisor partnerships help create meaningful impact, and we’re grateful for the professionals who work alongside us to help clients achieve their charitable goals through thoughtful philanthropy.

This week, we’re spotlighting Doug W. Harvey, J.D., with The Blum Firm. With more than a decade of experience, Doug works closely with individuals, families, and business owners to develop strategies aligned with their long-term goals and values.

His leadership and involvement across several professional organizations, including The Dallas Foundation Professional Advisor Council, reflect his commitment to thoughtful planning and meaningful community impact.

We’re grateful for the collaboration and impact advisors like Doug help make possible.

We were proud to join fellow nonprofit leaders, funders, and changemakers at the Better Together Fund convening focused on rethinking growth through collaboration, mergers, and strategic partnerships. More than 100 nonprofit CEOs and board chairs came together to explore how sustained collaboration can strengthen organizations, increase sustainability, and deepen community impact across North Texas.

The conversation reinforced an important shift in mindset: mergers and formal collaboration are not a last resort, but one of many strategic tools organizations can use to maximize impact during moments of growth and change. We’re especially proud of our Chief Impact Officer, Vickie Allen, for helping lead this important discussion as a member of the Better Together Fund Steering Committee.

Thank you to the Better Together Fund collaborative and all participating organizations for bringing leaders together for candid conversation and shared learning.

At The Dallas Foundation, people and purpose go hand in hand, and that’s what stands out most to Liz Vickers, Senior Director of Human Capital & Governance.

In her role, Liz helps support the people and leadership structures that strengthen the Foundation’s work every day. She values being part of a team that genuinely cares about one another, our fundholders, nonprofit partners, and the broader community. That shared commitment is reflected in how the team collaborates, serves others, and works together to create lasting impact across Dallas.

For Liz, The Dallas Foundation’s people-first culture is what truly sets it apart – a place where employees are valued, supported, and united by a mission they deeply believe in. It’s that passion and dedication that continue to drive meaningful change throughout our community.

There’s something powerful about being in a room with donors who believe deeply in the future of Dallas and coming together to express our gratitude for their impact.

In every conversation, there was a shared commitment to this city and to the work it takes to strengthen it. From long-standing fundholders to new partners, each exchange reflected what’s possible when generosity is put into action.

It was an honor to be with the board and advisory board members, fundholders, and staff who help move this work forward every day. Thank you for your continued partnership and for the role you play in creating lasting impact across our city.
