We're Not Going to "Fight for You"
(stay with me here!)
In a time when outrage and "owning the libs" dominates center-right politics, is there still a place for creative, entrepreneurial thinking that promotes solutions to policy problems based on limited government, individual liberty, free markets and constitutional principles?
There'd better be. And at the Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI), we still think so.
Right now, everyone is promising to "fight for you." Every candidate, every organization, every political party.
How's that working out? Have any of our major problems been solved that way? I mean, REALLY solved, so that it can't be undone by an executive order?
Nope. And we know what our problems are:
- We need a working immigration system that continually renews the American experiment without endangering our safety,
- We need to stop adding to the national debt,
- We need to address our entitlements crisis, and it's almost too late,
- We need a healthcare system that prioritizes innovation and access over control and redistribution,
- We need an education system that prepares young people for the future and that encourages competition and innovation,
- We want abundant, affordable energy by fully leveraging fossil fuels while also encouraging private sector energy innovation,
- We want more federalism and state responsibility, and less top-down federal control,
- Whether the future is AI, or quantum computing, or personalized genetic medicine, the United States must be the global leader.
I could go on, because we have a LOT of problems, but this is an email, and I need to get to my point.
In our constitutional design, fighting doesn't solve problems. Instead, we need to develop solutions based on individual liberty, limited government, free-markets, and constitutional governance.
And we need to persuade a majority to join us.
That's what we try to do at IPI. Design solutions, and then try to persuade the public and policy makers through op/eds, podcasts, social media, meetings with elected officials, policy briefings, and traditional media. That's the model for lasting change. And we've been doing this for decades.
Later this year IPI will be releasing:
- Proposed constitutional amendments to address demonstrated problems,
- A proposal to turbocharge Trump accounts to solve both the student loan problem and Social Security's impending implosion,
- A proposal to prevent corruption in prediction markets, and
- Proposals to lock-in the immigration policy successes of the Trump administration.
