Ill. Bro. Alphonse Mucha, the father of Art Nouveau.

Painter and illustrator Alphonse Mucha was a defining artist of the Art Nouveau movement (1890-1910). He joined Freemasonry in Paris and helped form the first Czech-speaking lodge while in Prague. He eventually became the second Grand Commander, or chief executive officer, of the Scottish Rite in Czechoslovakia.

Congratulations to Cadet Sgt. Johnathan Paugh of the Southern Garrett High School Rams Squadron who was presented the Scottish Rite JROTC Medal by Cumberland Chapter of Rose Croix Senior Warden Christopher Ackerman
during the Squadron’s Annual Awards program.

The Scottish Rite JROTC Award is a prestigious honor presented to outstanding cadets for fostering Americanism and showing leadership. It includes a medal, ribbon, and certificate, typically awarded to a second-year student (or second-to-last year) in the top 25% of their class who demonstrates patriotism, character, and school service.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, on Friday, May 15, 2026, from 4 PM to 7 PM. Brunswick Lodge #191, A.F.& A.M. will conduct a memorial service at 6:45 PM. Military honors will then be accorded by Post #13 Veterans Honor guard.

The Cumberland Knights of St. Andrew participated in the annual Kirkin’ of the Tartans at Emmanuel Parish on April 19, 2026. Thanks to the Very Rev. Dr. Scott Rieker and the Emmanuel congregation for a warm welcome to share in this tradition of blessing tartans.
