No sweet creek pictures in this post. Something we don’t talk about enough is the work that goes into supporting our campers. Many of the kids who come to Wildrock have means to register for camp, bring lunch, get dropped off and picked up, pack extra clothes etc.
But many, do not. We have campers who do not have food at home; campers who are couch hopping with their mom; campers whose parent doesn’t have internet or phone because they’re out of work; campers whose families just got evicted; campers whose grown up cannot read and struggles to fill out the registration form; campers who would otherwise be home alone, likely on a screen, for most if not all of the summer.
Nature is for everyone. But not everyone has the same access to nature or summer programs. It takes a little more work to get some campers to Wildrock, but that’s why we do this. We appreciate any support you can give so that we can take care of the behind the scenes pieces required to get all of these wonderful kids to camp. Transportation and grocery costs this summer are higher than ever. Donate on our website. Thank you for caring about local kids.

PSA from Clover! Drive slowly!! Remember box turtles come out after rain. If you see one in the road, check your surroundings and safely move the turtle out of the road in the direction it is heading. ***DO NOT relocate it to “a better location.” DO NOT take it home to be your pet. If the turtle is injured and requires medical attention, write down the exact location where you found it and call the Wildlife Center of Virginia.

As we reflect on 2025, we are inspired by and grateful for the impact you have made in the community. Thanks to you, Wildrock was able to engage 14,329 friends through camps, playscape visits, field trips and outreach programs for a total of 31,452 hours playing in nature.
