As usual, a great crowd at tonight’s Ashe Outreach Ministries fish fry. We served up 440 plates on what turned out to be a VERY warm evening. I have to hand it to our volunteers spending 3+ hours in a kitchen containing 5 deep fryers and 6 heat lamps wide open in addition to several refrigerators an ice machine and a commercial dishwasher belching out their hot exhaust. Even those volunteers who could escape the kitchen heat with duties in the dining or banquet room were subjected to a sweat producing evening, but complaints were virtually unheard of. The team was focused on their mission and I heard nothing but kudos coming from those in attendance in appreciation for the efforts of our volunteers. Thanks to EVERYONE for not only making this possible but an overwhelming success that will enable us to turn around and provider greater assistance to our community. Simply put, you are the BEST!!! The produce, eggs and meat have arrived at Ashe Outreach ready to be given out on Saturday morning starting around 8:30am. Drive up only, no need to get out of your vehicle. Wonderful items await you. You don’t need a pantry card to get these items and for those of you who get food from our pantry, this doesn’t count against your allocation. Yum, come and get it. We have received our 60 bags of fresh produce from the good folks at Mountain Roots Farm. They won't last long. Come and get yours! We get these every Tuesday during the growing season and you can pick them up Tuesday-Thursday, 9am-2pm. These distributions are separate from anything else we give out so they don't count against your pantry allocations. AOM is located at 11719 NC Hwy 88W, Creston. We can be reached at 336-385-1314.

Yes, Ashe Outreach will be distributing fresh produce, meat and other goodies on Saturday starting around 8:30 am until we run out. It will be a drive thru with no need to get out of your vehicle. You can pick up for yourself and one other family. We are located at 11719 NC Hwy 88W, Creston. Our number is +1 (336) 385-1314. The photo below is from last week. This week will be similar but slightly different.

We're on a roll with 400+ folks being served, both take out and eat in being the new standard at the Ashe Outreach twice a month fish fry. Tonight's crowd added up to 415 happy and well-fed souls. All those meals in just three hours! The reason the numbers are important is that's our main source of funds for purchasing food to distribute to our friends and neighbors in the High Country as well as paying our bills. We are truly blessed by everyone's generosity through the twice per month fish fry as well as your donations to such a worthy ministry. Let me not forget the very special group that largely remains hidden in the kitchen...our outstanding and ever so talented volunteers that work the better part of the week to put such a masterpiece together. As I always try to mention, we simply couldn't do it without them! We have about 80 volunteer positions at AOM filled with around 60 volunteers which means many of the volunteers pull double or even triple duty. If you'd care to be part of the team, please stop by Tuesday-Thursday, 9-2 and we can tell you about the opportunities that might fit your interests. Thanks again to everyone for such a great evening.

Reminder that tomorrow morning starting around 8:30, we'll be handing out produce, meats and eggs to the first 125 folks that show up. No qualifications required.

Once again, this Saturday starting around 8:30am, Ashe Outreach will be giving away some tasty meats, vegetables, fruit and eggs.
