As we celebrate Ems week we first off want to thank our partners at Ashe Medics for their dedication to serving the citizens of Ashe County.

While it’s often overlooked by many we also want to take time and recognize our volunteers for their time and dedication to providing critical medical skills to our community when it matters most.

We are proud to say our department has

2- Medical Responders

We are grateful for each of these individuals and the dedication they have to do this training and maintain it.

Effective Saturday, March 28 at 8 a.m., the National Weather Service has issued a ** 🚩🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩🚩** for some North Carolina counties. For counties that aren’t under a red flag, fire danger is still critical. Review weather alerts for North Carolina at weather.gov.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous fire behavior.

While open burning is permitted during a red flag, it is NOT advised. Please postpone ALL outdoor burning. If there was ever a time to show you can follow instructions the first time they are given, it’s now.

Careless debris burning is the leading cause of wildfires in North Carolina, and you are our best defense against wildfire. For wildfire readiness and prevention tips: preventwildfirenc.org

As spring arrives in Ashe County, the Ashe County Emergency Management and the Ashe County Fire Marshal’s Office want to remind residents that spring wildfire season is underway across North Carolina.

During late winter and early spring, dry vegetation, gusty winds, and lower humidity levels create conditions where fires can spread quickly. Even a small outdoor fire can escape control and threaten homes, property, and nearby forests.

Spring wildfire season typically lasts until vegetation begins to green up, but conditions can remain dangerous when dry weather persists.

If you see a wildfire or an outdoor fire that is getting out of control, call 911 immediately.

Working together, the residents of Ashe County can help prevent wildfires and protect our communities, firefighters, and natural resources.

As we are quickly approaching the winter weather for this weekend we know right now there are a lot of unknowns. We want to share a few reminders for everyone.

If for any reason you are running a generator always remember to position your generator in a safe environment so that you do not risk fire danger or possible Co2 exposure.
Always remember when storing fuel to place it in an environment that is well ventilated and away from open flame.

When traveling remember to allow yourself extra time and travel at a safe speed for the conditions you are in. If travel is not necessary we recommend you stay home for your safety.

Our crews have been actively preparing for this event all week. As we continue to receive updates from our emergency management team and the national weather service we will continue to monitor closely to ensure we are prepared.

Saturday (1/24) we will have personnel standing by our station starting around mid morning. To provide coverage for our citizens. We encourage anyone who requires medical equipment that requires power to operate to have a backup plan in place in the event of prolonged power outages.

We encourage everyone to please help our 911 center out by only calling for true emergencies. This ensures true emergency calls can be answered and processed quickly as response times by all emergency services this weekend will be greatly impacted.

We would like to wish each and everyone a safe and Merry Christmas.
