Antes de la junta del concilio de Costa Mesa, Spectrum News 1 reportó sobre las preocupaciones por el uso de cámaras de Flock en Costa Mesa.

Nuestro organizador Christian Lopez apareció en el artículo y en el video, hablando sobre los riesgos que estos sistemas de vigilancia pueden crear para nuestras familias inmigrantes y las comunidades que ya viven con el miedo a la detención, la deportación y la vigilancia policial.

Anoche, más de 100 miembros de la comunidad salieron para hablar en contra de Flock. Después de horas de comentarios públicos, el Concilio de Costa Mesa votó 6-1 para rechazar la cancelación del contrato con Flock. La concejal Arlis Reynolds fue el único voto en contra.

Before Tuesday’s vote, Spectrum News 1 covered the growing concerns around Costa Mesa’s use of Flock license plate reader cameras.

Our organizer Christian Lopez was featured in the article and video, speaking about the risks these surveillance systems can create for immigrant families and communities already living with fear of detention, deportation, and over policing.

Last night, more than 100 community members showed up and spoke against Flock. After hours of public comment, the Costa Mesa City Council still voted 6-1 to reject the cancellation and push another discussion later in the year. Council member Arlis Reynolds casted the only dissenting vote.

The city is voting Tuesday night to determine if it will continue its existing Flock Safety contract

A ballot mailed on time should not be thrown out because the mail arrived late.

The Supreme Court ruled today in a 5–4 decision, that states may count mail ballots received after Election Day when they were postmarked by the deadline.

What this means for Californians is that ballots postmarked by Election Day can still be counted when received within seven days.

This is an important victory to defend our rights and elections. We have to keep showing up for each other as attacks on voting rights and access to the ballot continue.

How the court voted.

Majority: Amy Coney Barrett, John Roberts, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Dissent: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.
