Oak Ridge High School War Eagle Band, please welcome our new Director of Bands, Mr. Colin Peters!
Originally from Dickinson, Texas, Mr. Peters graduated from the University of Houston with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He began his teaching career in Conroe ISD at York JH where he served as an Assistant Band Director. During his time at York JH Mr. Peters’ bands received consistent sweepstakes awards at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading evaluation.
In 2020 Mr. Peters left York JH to attend Sam Houston State University where he received his master’s degree in Music with a focus in Instrumental Conducting. While at Sam Houston State, Mr. Peters assisted with the Bearkat Marching Band and led rehearsals with the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. During his time at SHSU, he also continued to work with programs in Conroe ISD by teaching private lessons and leading masterclasses at many junior high and high school programs.
After receiving his masters degree, Mr. Peters became the Director of Bands at Woodridge Forest Middle School in New Caney ISD. He led a band program of over 350 students where his bands were successful at the UIL Concert and Sight Reading evaluation as well as finishing
first place at the region level of the TMEA Honor Band process.
In 2023 Mr. Peters found his way back to Conroe ISD where he served as the Director of Bands at Irons JH. Under his tenure, the band program has grown to over 250 students, built a thriving private lesson program, greatly increased the number of students that are placed in the TMEA Region IX Bands and Orchestras, built success at the UIL concert and sight reading evaluation, and most importantly, built strong relationships with students, families, and the
community.
Mr. Peters is extremely excited for the opportunity to continue working with the amazing students and families that have gone through Irons JH and also to build greatness with the existing students at Oak Ridge High School.
