UPDATE: Mission accomplished!!! We found Rambo!!!

Unbelievable RAMBO UPDATE -🚨 THE SEARCH FOR RAMBO CONTINUES — NOTHING IS STOPPING THIS VETERAN! 🐾🇺🇸

As if the search for Rambo wasn't difficult enough, our veteran client was robbed at gunpoint on an RTD bus along Colfax last night. The suspect took some of his clothing, his King Soopers groceries, and other personal belongings. Police are involved and actively searching for the suspect.

Let that sink in for a moment. This veteran is already dealing with the stress of trying to find a missing dog he cares about, and now he's the victim of a violent crime. Yet he has not given up on finding Rambo.

Our client is a hardened Army combat veteran who survived the streets of Kandahar, Afghanistan. He's facing another tough situation here at home, and he's still out there fighting to bring Rambo back. As tough as Colfax can be, this veteran knows a thing or two about perseverance.

Right now, he's back at Rambo's last known location, following a promising lead. He's searching for an unhoused individual named Lilly, who reportedly described Rambo in remarkable detail — right down to the specifics. That's encouraging, and we're hopeful this lead will help us find Rambo. But until we have confirmation, we have to keep searching and keep asking questions.

This is what dedication looks like. This is what the bond between a veteran and a dog looks like. ❤️

Urgent!
I’m sorry, I feel like all I do is ask for donations! Sometimes we have months of zero vet expenses and then everything hits at once!

Mabel needs to see the neurologist specialist again. She’s having a lot of seizures, and it’s suspected she may have a tumor behind her eye (her eye is underdeveloped). She’s having may need an enucleation but we aren’t sure yet. Since she’s a senior we wouldn’t want to put her through too much - but she’s in good health and such a sweet and happy girl, we’d like to give her more time without these seizures.

Mabel came to us many years ago when she was removed from her home by animal control for abuse/neglect issues. She was EXTREMELY timid and scared. She had her own bed by the window that she pretty much stayed in the first year. It took several years until she felt comfortable sitting on the couch for the rest of us. She then became the “helper dog” for other blind/special needs animals.

It's that unfortunate time of year again...we need to ask for your help to get legal!

Yep, time to register all of our dogs with the county again. I do admit, it seems very unfair to make a small nonprofit like ours pay registration of $20 for each dog...and have that money go to a large (well-funded) shelter that relies on small rescues to take a lot of their dogs. But there's nothing we can do, we have to comply or else all of our old residents could end up back at the shelter!

We couldn’t do this important work without your help…getting old is expensive (I can personally attest to this!) Here’s what we need to raise...each dog costs $20 to register another $40 for a senior wellness exam and rabies vaccination or exemption (many of our residents aren't well enough to get a rabies vaccination).
We need to raise $840 total.

Sorry it’s taken me so long to give an update! Things got pretty hectic around here.

Fig did great with his surgery and guess what!? The tumor was benign! I was definitely expecting it to be cancer, so it was amazing to hear that he’s just fine. He had most of his teeth removed and a nasal oral fistula repaired. He was pretty traumatized from having to go to the vet, but he’s doing just fine now.

When it rains, it pours.

I’m currently doing a fundraiser for Fig, who needs surgery. Thank you to all that have donated and shared that post.

Last night our washing machine died. This is really bad news. We do (and unfortunately I’m not exaggerating) about 5-6 loads of laundry a DAY.

That’s because we take in dogs that aren’t housebroken or that are incontinent because of medical issues. We have to wash wee wee pads, belly bands and diapers and endless amounts of dog beds, blankets and toys everyday.

So in addition to raising money for Fig, I need to raise money to purchase a new or used washing machine. Or, if someone in Colorado has one they’d like to donate, we’d definitely be up for that, too.

Getting old means lots of laundry. 😂

Fig needs your help!

Fig has a tumor in his mouth that needs removed and sent for a biopsy, as well as a dental and possible oral/nasal fistula repair.

Fig is the youngster around here at a spry eleven years old. He’s been here since 2017. He was kicked in the head as a baby, which caused a brain injury. He was taken to a shelter, where a couple adopted him, swearing to provide him a forever family…but they ended up dumping him back at the shelter after a few months. I was contacted about Fig five times. I said no, that I couldn’t take him four of those times. Nobody else wanted him, so I finally relented. BEST DECISION EVER!

He has a lot of special needs. He has shrieking spells that can last five minutes. I’m talking the kind of shrieking that can make your ears bleed. There’s nothing you can do to stop them (believe me, I’ve tried) they just have to run their coarse. They happen all hours of the night and day. He’s extremely anxious and high strung. He’s terrified of having his nails clipped. He’s loud, chaotic, unpredictable and crazy. He’s also loved sooooo much.

He can be sweet, playful - he loves Bob and Melody best, he hates Hamlet. For the first few years we had him he was a biter, but he’s mellowed in his old age. Though if you have to clip his nails, you’ll need a muzzle and welding gloves.

His hobbies are sleeping, shrieking and sleeping some more. He’ll guard one piece of kibble for days. His favorite food is English muffins.

We need to have his tumor biopsy as soon as possible because it could be malignant. We decided to do a long-overdue dental at the same time. He is TERRIFIED of leaving the house, so we try to minimize it as much as possible. He can get so stressed out he’ll have seizures.
