Little Old Dog Sanctuary

Little Old Dog Sanctuary We are a 501(c)(3) end-of-life sanctuary for small senior and special needs dogs. We also rescue farm animals. The dogs live in our house at "pets."

Our sanctuary is at our 4 acre home in Conifer, Colorado. They are not kenneled or caged. We have some dogs that are in our program that live in permanent foster care homes (usually because they don't get along with other dogs). These animals will live the remainder of their lives here in comfort.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

12/30/2025

There’s a few days left to get in your year-end donation and have it matched!

Our match goes until midnight on January 1st - so you can make a 2025 year-end donation and/or a 2026 donation!

These donations will help us fund our medical care in 2026, because getting old is expensive.

Here’s a heartwarming video of two late residents, Pru and Pearl. They were rescued from a county shelter in Colorado who had transferred them in from Texas. We initially rescued Pru (the larger gal) because she was very shut down and stressed (she was old and shy) and was receiving no interest (black dogs have a very difficult time getting adopted). We quickly realized that she was desperately missing Pearl (we were told they weren’t bonded -they definitely were). My dear friend and fellow rescuer, Joy, picked up Pearl (who was blind ) and brought her to the sanctuary. It was the most beautiful, heartwarming moment when they were reunited. We normally rescue little dogs, but occasionally a big dog sneaks in!

This video is of their first time seeing snow! (You know, back when it used to snow in Colorado). They LOVED it. Moments like this is why we do what we do, but we can only do this because of your kindness and generosity.

If you’d like to donate, you can do it via our website at littleolddogsanctuary dot org (link in comments), PayPal - [email protected], Venmo - or by mailing a check to LODS POBox 1409, Conifer, CO 80433.

Lulu needs a dental!

We are doing a little fundraiser separate from our big December fundraiser. Sorry for all the begging for money lately! Our December fundraiser all goes towards emergency vet care for the next year.

Lulu needs a dental with several extractions. She has a heart murmur, so we’ve been putting it off, but it’s got to be done. She’ll be having surgery on Friday, and I’m trying to raise $1500. She has to get a senior bloodwork panel panel done and an exam beforehand. She’ll be having it done by a specialist, so it’s pricey.

If you are able, please consider donating, if you aren’t able to donate, please share.

You can donate via our website (www.littleolddogsanctuary dot org - link in comments, or bio on IG), PayPal: [email protected], Venmo or mail a check to LODS, PO Box 1409, Conifer, CO 80433. We are so grateful for your help with this!

It's Colorado Gives Day!

Looking for a reason to give on Colorado Gives Day? We’ve got lots of reasons for you...little, old furry reasons!

We've got good news and bad news. The bad news is that our budget isn't large enough to allow us to "officially" participate in Colorado Gives Day. This seems like discrimination to me, excluding the small nonprofits that could use the help the most, but those are the rules. The good news is that our Board President is willing to match all donations made to LODS through Christmas! So you can make a donation to Little Old Dog Sanctuary on Colorado Gives Day and it will be 100% matched! And you don’t need to be in Colorado to give, you can be anywhere!

You can donate through our website at littleolddogsanctuary dot org (link in the comments section), or simply send your donation via paypal to [email protected] or Venmo - littleolddog. You can also mail us a check. Our address is LODS, PO Box 1409, Conifer, CO 80433.

Let's face it. Getting old is hard...and expensive.

We rely on the generosity of people like you. Without your support we wouldn't be able to save these dogs and provide them with the medical care, comfort and forever home they so deserve at the end of their lives. No dog should have to die in a cold, noisy shelter where nobody knows their name. And thanks to the support of people like you, some of them won't have to.

We rescue senior dogs with chronic or acute medical issues, disabilities or severe behavioral issues from shelters where they have little to no chance of being adopted. Even healthy old dogs are almost always overlooked, but the dogs with other issues are often euthanized before even having a chance at adoption.

Our mission is to also change public perception about old dogs...I mean, c'mon - old dogs are amazing, resilient, wise, grateful, entertaining, loving and loyal. The shelter is no place for an old dog, yet they end up there in alarming numbers. Many are found wandering the streets or in fields in the middle of nowhere. Some find themselves dumped as their family goes to buy a new puppy. Some have overwhelming medical issues that their owner wasn't willing to deal with. Sometimes their owner dies and they have no place else to go. We are the safety net for these dogs. We bring them to our home to live as family members for the remainder of their lives. They get the run of the house, a full time live-in mom/nurse/maid/therapist (that's me) a beautiful four acre yard in the mountains (though most of them prefer the indoors), all the canned and homecooked food their toothless little mouths can eat, awesome vet care (our vet does lots of house calls), but most of all we give them dignity and unconditional love.

Your year-end gift to us will help us to give these seniors their happily ever after. All donations are tax deductible. Thank you so much for your generosity and for your love of old dogs.

Because it's never too late to live happily ever after!

Enjoy some pics of dogs under trees over the years!

This is a courtesy post. Let’s try to find this old guy a home for the holidays!

This is Cjay… Goof, derp, lover of life. Cjay’s loving, loyal, funny – he’s a tongue flopping, trotting next to you kind of bestie. He’s a great hybrid dog who loves to enjoy the great outdoors and go on walks, play ball (especially play ball!), bike ride and hike. But he also is a chill c...

It’s Giving Tuesday!

If you’re looking for a reason to give, we’ve got many tiny old very cute reasons for you!

Little Old Dog Sanctuary is a home based sanctuary/hospice for little old dogs (and the occasional big dog). We also take in dogs with life long special needs. Our dogs have their own 24/7 nurse mom (that would be me), complete run of the house, a visiting vet, lots of food, treats, patience, understanding, acceptance and soft love ( no tough love over here). We take dogs with every illness imaginable. Diabetes, cancer, seizures, dementia, heart worms, etc. We take dogs that are blind, deaf, paralyzed, incontinent, etc. We also take dogs with behavioral issues. We take them all.

We don’t rehome our dogs, they become permanent family members and live here for the remainder of their lives. They live IN our home as family members. We don’t utilize outbuildings or kennels. We have no staff, it’s just me, my husband Erik and our son. We are truly just a big happy family trying to provide a happily ever after for these old dogs.

We live in the beautiful mountains of Colorado. Our dogs can wander the acreage, or stay inside in front of the wood burning stove. We don’t judge. This is their retirement, so whatever makes each dog happy is good with us.

We believe that it’s never too late to live happily ever after. But we couldn’t do this life saving work without your help. We rely on donations to be able to do what we do. The generosity of people like you who love old dogs and believe as we do - no old dog should die alone at a shelter.

We know this year has been tough financially for a lot of people. And unfortunately for a tiny organization like ours, donations are down, but needs are up. We are still here though. Still caring for these oldies, still providing 24/7 care, and we still really need your help.

This is definitely a labor of love. I’m not going to sugar coat it, it’s not easy. The never-ending cleaning, the 24/7 caretaking (even if you aren’t feeling well), the worry over their health, the heartbreak and loss - over and over again, the sleepless nights, the constant anxiety over money. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I feel honored to be able to do what I do. If you’ve ever had an old dog, you understand what I’m saying. They are the purest form of love. Looking into an old dogs eyes makes all of the hard stuff worth it. I feel blessed to be here for them and help them transition from this life. No dog deserves to die at a shelter, especially the old ones, the sick ones, the broken ones. Your donation helps us to save seniors from that fate. You’re helping us to make the world a kinder, better place.

If you are able, please consider donating to Little Old Dog Sanctuary on this Giving Tuesday. Erik and I are so grateful for your support, but mostly all the dogs here are thankful.

There are several ways you can help. You can donate on our website (littleolddogsanctuary dot org) link in comments section. Or you can send funds via PayPal to [email protected], Venmo - littleolddog or mail a check to LODS, PO Box 1409, Conifer, CO 80433. We also have an Amazon wishlist (link on our website) and we love to get monthly canned food donations through Amazon or Chewys (we use Pedigree and Cesar). We are so grateful for our amazing, generous supporters! Thank you for all you do for the seniors!

Little Old Dog Sanctuary is a non profit organization. All donations are tax deductible.

Pretty in pink, little Lolly. Four pounds of attitude (all bad). She’s mostly blind but still tries fighting everyone. She tolerates tiny Chester (a three pound Chihuahua) but hates everyone else, especially Erik. She loves to pick fights with Melody, who outweighs her by about 30 pounds and is the undisputed heavyweight champion at our house, but Lolly knows I’m always there to save her.
