Little Old Dog Sanctuary

Little Old Dog Sanctuary We are a 501(c)(3) end-of-life sanctuary for small senior and special needs dogs. We also rescue farm animals. The dogs live in our house at "pets."

Our sanctuary is at our 4 acre home in Conifer, Colorado. They are not kenneled or caged. We have some dogs that are in our program that live in permanent foster care homes (usually because they don't get along with other dogs). These animals will live the remainder of their lives here in comfort.

When it rains, it pours.

I’m currently doing a fundraiser for Fig, who needs surgery. Thank you to all that have donated and shared that post.

Last night our washing machine died. This is really bad news. We do (and unfortunately I’m not exaggerating) about 5-6 loads of laundry a DAY.

That’s because we take in dogs that aren’t housebroken or that are incontinent because of medical issues. We have to wash wee wee pads, belly bands and diapers and endless amounts of dog beds, blankets and toys everyday.

So in addition to raising money for Fig, I need to raise money to purchase a new or used washing machine. Or, if someone in Colorado has one they’d like to donate, we’d definitely be up for that, too.

Getting old means lots of laundry. 😂

Thank you so much for all your help. You can donate via our website (littleolddogsanctuary dot org - link in comments section), PayPal - [email protected], Venmo - littleolddog or you can mail a check to LODS, PO Box 1409, Conifer, CO 80433.

Fig needs your help!

Fig has a tumor in his mouth that needs removed and sent for a biopsy, as well as a dental and possible oral/nasal fistula repair.

Fig is the youngster around here at a spry eleven years old. He’s been here since 2017. He was kicked in the head as a baby, which caused a brain injury. He was taken to a shelter, where a couple adopted him, swearing to provide him a forever family…but they ended up dumping him back at the shelter after a few months. I was contacted about Fig five times. I said no, that I couldn’t take him four of those times. Nobody else wanted him, so I finally relented. BEST DECISION EVER!

He has a lot of special needs. He has shrieking spells that can last five minutes. I’m talking the kind of shrieking that can make your ears bleed. There’s nothing you can do to stop them (believe me, I’ve tried) they just have to run their coarse. They happen all hours of the night and day. He’s extremely anxious and high strung. He’s terrified of having his nails clipped. He’s loud, chaotic, unpredictable and crazy. He’s also loved sooooo much.

He can be sweet, playful - he loves Bob and Melody best, he hates Hamlet. For the first few years we had him he was a biter, but he’s mellowed in his old age. Though if you have to clip his nails, you’ll need a muzzle and welding gloves.

His hobbies are sleeping, shrieking and sleeping some more. He’ll guard one piece of kibble for days. His favorite food is English muffins.

We need to have his tumor biopsy as soon as possible because it could be malignant. We decided to do a long-overdue dental at the same time. He is TERRIFIED of leaving the house, so we try to minimize it as much as possible. He can get so stressed out he’ll have seizures.

If you can donate we would so appreciate it. I want Fig to live a very long, safe, comfy life. P

There’s a few days left to get in your year-end donation and have it matched!

Our match goes until midnight on January 1st - so you can make a 2025 year-end donation and/or a 2026 donation!

These donations will help us fund our medical care in 2026, because getting old is expensive.

Here’s a heartwarming video of two late residents, Pru and Pearl. They were rescued from a county shelter in Colorado who had transferred them in from Texas. We initially rescued Pru (the larger gal) because she was very shut down and stressed (she was old and shy) and was receiving no interest (black dogs have a very difficult time getting adopted). We quickly realized that she was desperately missing Pearl (we were told they weren’t bonded -they definitely were). My dear friend and fellow rescuer, Joy, picked up Pearl (who was blind ) and brought her to the sanctuary. It was the most beautiful, heartwarming moment when they were reunited. We normally rescue little dogs, but occasionally a big dog sneaks in!

This video is of their first time seeing snow! (You know, back when it used to snow in Colorado). They LOVED it. Moments like this is why we do what we do, but we can only do this because of your kindness and generosity.

Lulu needs a dental!

We are doing a little fundraiser separate from our big December fundraiser. Sorry for all the begging for money lately! Our December fundraiser all goes towards emergency vet care for the next year.

Lulu needs a dental with several extractions. She has a heart murmur, so we’ve been putting it off, but it’s got to be done. She’ll be having surgery on Friday, and I’m trying to raise $1500. She has to get a senior bloodwork panel panel done and an exam beforehand. She’ll be having it done by a specialist, so it’s pricey.

If you are able, please consider donating, if you aren’t able to donate, please share.
