Main Street connects communities across Washington—urban and rural alike.
While our communities may look different, Main Street organizations from every corner of the state share a common goal: creating vibrant downtowns, supporting local businesses, and building places where people feel connected and belong.
From larger cities like Vancouver and Everett to rural communities like Colville and LaCrosse, Main Street has been bringing people together around historic commercial districts and community revitalization for more than 40 years.
What makes Washington's Main Street network so special is the opportunity to learn from one another. While every community faces its own challenges and opportunities, we're all working toward the same goal: creating strong, resilient, and welcoming downtowns.
Here in Colville, many of our ideas have been inspired by fellow Main Street communities. In fact, our popular 4th Friday events were inspired by the success of Camas's 1st Friday program. Seeing how other communities bring people downtown through arts, entertainment, and local businesses helped spark ideas that we adapted to fit Colville.
That's the power of Main Street. Communities share ideas, celebrate successes, and learn from one another so we can all continue building stronger downtowns.
One of the best examples of that collaboration is the annual PLACES Conference, where Main Street leaders, volunteers, business owners, and community champions from across Washington come together to share ideas, learn new skills, and bring fresh inspiration back home. This year's conference will be held in Ellensburg on October 6-8.
This Main Street Week, we're celebrating not only our local achievements but also the statewide network of communities working together to keep Main Streets thriving across Washington. ❤️
