๐Ÿข Please Report Reptile and Amphibian Road Crossing Hotspots for Wildlife Research ๐Ÿธ
๐Ÿ”— https://ow.ly/agO150YVKew
โš ๏ธ Our agency, in partnership with Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio Department of Natural Resources, are asking the public to report locations where they see reptiles and amphibians frequently cross roadways. Wildlife crossings put both animals and passenger vehicles at risk on the roadway, so reports can help ODNR and ODOT can create safer solutions for wildlife crossing areas.

โ˜ ๏ธ In spring and summer, reptiles such as box turtles, snapping turtles, and snakes are vulnerable to vehicles as they cross roadways to lay eggs, find new habitat, or seek shelter. In the early spring and occasionally in the fall, amphibians like salamanders, frogs, and toads sometimes cross roads as they travel to breeding areas.

๐Ÿ‘€ Observers can report locations of reptile and amphibian road crossings via the Wildlife Reporting System (https://ow.ly/agO150YVKew) and on the HuntFish OH mobile app. Observations of live animals are helpful, as are reports of roadkill. Users are encouraged to take note of road crossing locations and submit reports once they are no longer driving. Never use this app while driving; please park in a safe location before reporting or ask a passenger to make the report.

๐ŸŒฟ Today we officially dedicated Berwick Alternative School as the 217th WILD School Site in Ohio and the 18th in Franklin County and only the 2nd for Columbus City Schools! ๐ŸŽ‰

The students have worked hard to create a garden that doesn't just grow food but supports wildlife. From bird houses and bug hotels to native perennial flowers and water features, the garden is home to bluebirds, monarchs, black swallowtails, goldfinches, and more. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆ‹

The eight classrooms grow radishes, kale, tomatoes, potatoes, basil, spinach, and more in 20+ outdoor beds and indoor hydroponics. The students plant, harvest, cook, and eat it all! Extras go straight to the local food bank. They even have a few beds for rent to the community members. ๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿฅ”

They are proud to name the site, โ€œTyler's Gardenโ€ honoring former Berwick student Tyler Simmons, who lost his life serving our country in Iraq. His memory lives on in every seed they plant.

Thank you to the Franklin County Master Gardener Volunteers, teachers, students, families, and community who made this possible.๐ŸŒป
