Highland Youth Garden

Highland Youth Garden The mission of Highland Youth Garden is to grow minds, grow food and grow communitiy in partnership with our Hilltop neighbors.

The garden’s history is one rooted in humility and love: the seeds for Highland Youth Garden were planted in 2009 when a local recreation center closed, and local educators and lovers-of-gardening began growing food and teaching children on the plot. Now, we feature one of the largest high tunnels in the city, an outdoor education center, and a nearly half-acre plot full of arbors, structures, and crops.

Check out some of the beautiful fresh picked produce we have given out this year at our free garden markets!

We are open for all on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00-4:30 at 85 S. Highland ave Columbus 43204 Come see some smiling faces at the garden and take home some nutritious veggies for your family! We also have free plants that you can grow in your own backyard garden.

Garden camp 2026 has begun. Yesterday the kiddos harvested over 25 pounds of purple broccoli, heirloom tomatoes, peppers and cauliflower’

Smiles were abound as we taught this outstanding group of youths where veggies actually come from. Then we finished garden activities with everyone planting cucumber seeds starting a new growth cycle.

A BIG shout out to for the amazing volunteer crew who came out yesterday and helped us feed the soil at our garden. The hard working and super fun group was able to spread 8 yards of compost!

We want to give a special shout out and huge thank you to Yolanda Owens for her five years of volunteer Board service with HYG! Yolanda is a dedicated advocate for food education and food access. During her time at the Ohio State University's College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences (CFAES) she facilitated connecting our Green Teens cohorts with the college to learn about careers in environment and agriculture. She not only saw the garden through major decisions over the years, but was always a friendly face at garden events, along with her two wonderful children.

Yolanda is continuing to lead important food work as Executive Director of . Thank you so much for your service, Yolanda, and we look forward to continuing to collaborate to spread the love of and access to food and education!
