What do cookies, college students, and STEAM education have in common? This story.

Neighborhood Tech Lab has launched at West Broad Elementary, and we wanted the neighborhood to hear about it in person. So we brought more than 70 cookies from Deez Cookies to the curb, and Dr. Harris and our Discovery Team spent the afternoon sharing flyers and talking with West Side families.

That outreach plan came from Ohio State students. Over the course of a full year, a class led by Dr. Jasmine Roberts-Crews took on See Brilliance as their client and built a campaign to increase awareness of and access to STEAM on Columbus’ West Side. This time, their work went off the slide deck and onto the street.

Thank you to Dr. Roberts-Crews, the OSU students, and Deez Cookies for helping make it a sweet day. We’re just getting started on the West Side. 💛

Who knew there was so much STEAM behind keeping Ohio moving?

Our students found out at the Ohio Department of Transportation. In partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Ohio and YMCA of Central Ohio, young explorers spent a STEAM Day seeing how science, technology, engineering, art, and math solve real problems across our state. They watched demonstrations, tried hands-on activities, and asked questions of the professionals who plan, build, and maintain the roads we all depend on.

The biggest takeaway? STEAM isn’t something that stays in a classroom. It builds, connects, and moves the world around us.

Thank you to ODOT for welcoming us, and to our community partners for helping make it happen. When young people can see what’s possible, they start imagining what they can become. 💛

What do marigolds, decorative tiles, and rubber-band race cars have in common? Your kids will find out at our next STEMulating Saturday.

In celebration of Hispanic heritage and Día de los Mu***os, students will explore the meaning and traditions behind a holiday that honors loved ones with color, art, and remembrance. They’ll design their own culturally inspired tiles, then shift into engineering mode to build rubber-band-powered cars, testing energy, motion, and wheel design along the way.

A great brunch needs good food and good music. The best ones also need people worth listening to.

We’re proud to introduce the voices of The Sound of Impact, our 3rd Annual STEAM Coalition Brunch. Our panel brings one changemaker for each letter of STEAM: Dr. Olivia Nathan (Science), Michael Nicholson (Technology), Dr. Jameka Wiggins (Engineering), Malcolm Marshall (Arts), and Kyra Jones (Mathematics). Dr. Nathan Harris will moderate, and Gabrielle Phiefer of NBC4 joins us as MC.

They’ll share real experiences and practical ideas you can bring back to your classroom, workplace, and neighborhood. Around that conversation, you’ll find brunch, music, interactive STEAM experiences, and connections worth making.

What makes you… you?

Scientists at Nationwide Children's Hospital are working on that question every day, right here in Columbus. On Saturday, October 10, from 10:30-12:30 p.m., they're sharing that work with our students.

At this STEMulating Saturday, young people will explore DNA, genetics, and genomics with real researchers. They'll ask questions during an interactive career panel, then roll up their sleeves for hands-on activities that reveal the instructions hidden inside every cell.

Rain moved in on festival day, and we had 90 minutes to take the whole See Brilliance STEAM Festival indoors.

517 young people came anyway.

They flew drones, played games, built, experimented, painted, danced, made music, and shared a meal at the King Arts Complex. It was science, art, engineering, and movement, all under one roof we hadn't planned on.

We are deeply grateful to The King Arts Complex for opening their doors on short notice and making sure the day could go on. Thank you also to every family, volunteer, partner, sponsor, educator, community leader, and supporter who helped make it happen.

The best things that have ever happened for Columbus youth didn't start with a program. They started with a conversation between the right people in the right room.

The Sound of Impact brings together educators, parents, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and creatives at Brick Studio East for a morning built around one shared purpose — creating real, lasting opportunities for young people in this city.

We did not see this coming — and neither did the kids. 🤯🚲

At our STEAM of Bikes experience, students explored bike-powered spin art, robotics, bike safety, mechanics, and the real science behind two wheels. Then Franklinton Cycle Works surprised every single participant with a brand-new Schwinn bike to take home.

50 bikes. Countless smiles. One day nobody in that room will ever forget.
