Next generation of leaders in action!

Last week, Ohio's Scouting America councils partnered together by hosting our State of Scouting open house at the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. Members of the Ohio General Assembly spent time with the young people Scouting America is preparing for Ohio's future.

Our Scouts demonstrated the mission with hands-on experiences through VR welding headsets, the physics of a Pinewood Derby car, and how our program trains future leaders. These Scouts represent the 37,000 youth across the state who are preparing to become our future workforce.

Scout Night at Huntington Park was a blast. ⚾

Over 350 Scouts and their families came out for our Scout Night with the Columbus Clippers, with Scouts hitting the field for the pregame parade, getting up close with live Ohio wildlife from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and cheering on Scout Noah O. and his brother Cole as they shared the first pitch together. Thank you to all of the families and units that showed up!

The Muskingum Valley Council and Simon Kenton Council have entered a period of due diligence to evaluate how our two Councils might work together to strengthen the delivery of Scouting across our region.

This effort is centered on the future of Scouting and on ensuring the strongest possible opportunities, experiences, and support for our Scouts, volunteers, families, and communities.

Over the coming months, a working group of volunteers and professionals from both Councils will conduct a structured evaluation, engage in candid dialogue, and develop recommendations on the most effective path forward.

This process is exploratory. No decisions have been made. Its purpose is to assess opportunities for enhanced collaboration across program delivery, volunteer support, operational effectiveness, and long-term sustainability; whether pursued jointly or independently in service to the mission of Scouting America.

Throughout the process, both Councils are committed to transparency, consistent communication, and respect for the proud histories and traditions that have shaped Scouting in our communities for generations.

We are grateful for the dedication of our volunteers, the commitment of our families, and the steadfast support of our communities. Together, we will approach this work with discipline, purpose, and a shared commitment to ensuring Scouting remains strong and impactful for generations to come.

This past Thursday, we gathered to dedicate and officially open the Boyle Lodge at Camp Lazarus.

None of this would have been possible without the generosity of Bruce and Karen Boyle, whose gift gave Scouting Leaders a lasting place to gather. The lodge is dedicated in memory of their son, Michael. We're deeply grateful to them, and to everyone who came out to remember Michael and celebrate this new space.

Simon Kenton Council is hiring a part-time ScoutReach Program Aide in Columbus, Ohio.

ScoutReach brings Scouting to youth who might not otherwise have access to the program. As a Program Aide, you'd run weekly meetings for an assigned Cub Scout Pack from September through May, working directly with kids on STEM activities, environmental projects, fitness, and community involvement. Hours range from 4 to 20 per week at $13/hour, with possible summer hours depending on your Pack's plans.

What you need: a high school diploma, a clean background check, reliable transportation, and comfort working with children. Scouting experience and bilingual skills are a plus, but neither is required.

To apply, send your resume to [email protected].

Welcome to the team, Jake Stein!

Jake is SKC's new Membership Coordinator for the Polaris District, working to grow Scouting across central Ohio. He will be focusing on new units, new troops, and more kids in the program.

He's an Eagle Scout, Philmont Ranger, NYLT Staff Member, and OA member. He's back because Scouting gave him opportunities he still talks about, and he wants to do that for someone else.

His words: "I love working at Simon Kenton Council because it gives me an opportunity to give back to the community I was a part of during my Scouting career, which gave me the opportunity to be in the position I am in today."

Give Jake a welcome in the comments!

Today, we remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

There's a reason Scouts learn how to handle a flag the right way. How to fold it properly, how to place one at a veteran's grave. Those moments stick with you.

We remember, and we are grateful.

Bailey built a home. Just not for people.

When Bailey started thinking about an Eagle Scout project, they knew one thing: it had to be for the environment.

After building small bat house kits for conservation hours, Bailey thought, why not go bigger? A connection through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources pointed the way: build a bat condo for Blacklick Woods Metro Park.

What followed was months of planning, problem-solving, and community. Unclear blueprints led to finding a master woodworker to tackle compound roof angles. A revolving door of beneficiary contacts required patience and persistence. And when the finished structure turned out to be too large for just a few people to move, the community showed up.

On build days, volunteers filled the site. Grandma brought the food. Scoutmaster Ms. Patty provided the land and helped haul the finished condo to the park. Brian Altiere brought the woodworking expertise. Muth Roofing donated materials. Scouts, friends, and family gave their time, tools, and dollars.

The bat condo now stands at Blacklick Woods Metro Park, ready to support the local bat population.

Bailey put it best: "I'm most proud of how smooth the build days went. There were plenty of supplies, materials, and volunteers, and even the weather cooperated."

This is what Scouting looks like in central Ohio.
