Catamount Institute

Catamount Institute Connecting kids to the outdoors in the Pikes Peak Region since 1997! We offer scholarships to 30-40% of our student participants.

Catamount Institute provides award-winning, science-based environmental education programs, outdoor recreational activities, and leadership training to youth in the Pikes Peak region. These programs bring the wonder of the outdoors and a fascination for science to young participants; they also move underserved youth away from sedentary lifestyles and to outdoor classrooms, improving their physical

, mental and emotional health. Most of the schools we serve have a high proportion of students from lower-income families, some with poverty rates above 87%. Our programs provide our youth with a safe, healthy, and educational place to go after school, during the Summer, and over Spring Break.

Meet Addy! ๐ŸŒฒ

Weโ€™re excited to welcome Addy Dunbar to Catamount Institute as an AmeriCorps Environmental Educator!

Originally from Seattle, Addy brings a background in environmental studies, land management, organic farming, and environmental education. After spending the past year working on a land trust along the Chesapeake Bay, sheโ€™s excited to be back out West and inspire curiosity and meaningful connections with the outdoors in her students.

When sheโ€™s not outside with Catamount, you can find Addy hiking, skiing, reading, or sailing. โ›ท๏ธ๐Ÿ“š

Welcome to Catamount, Addy! ๐Ÿ’š

What does a day of learning outside look like? ๐ŸŒฒ

These students spent the day exploring, challenging themselves, and working together at Catamount Institute! They started with a choose-your-own-adventure hike, followed by blindfold dodgeball, and wrapped up the day with a team-building challenge where they worked together to build outdoor structures.

Along the way, they practiced leadership, communication, teamwork, and maybe even took a moment to stop and listen to the crickets. ๐Ÿฆ—๐Ÿ’š

Our staff pickleball day was the perfect excuse to get outside, spend some time together, and have a little fun off the clock. Weโ€™re pretty lucky to have a team that enjoys working โ€” and playing โ€” together. ๐Ÿ’š
