Meals on Wheels isn't simply about delivering food.
Research shows that home-delivered meals can make a measurable difference in the lives of older adults.
✨ 42% → 8%
In one study, the percentage of participants experiencing malnutrition dropped from 42% to 8% after three months of receiving meals.
🏡 92%
of surveyed participants said the meals helped them continue to live independently.
❤️ Nearly half
The number of seniors experiencing low or very low food security decreased by nearly half in one study.
🤝 Less isolation
Daily meal deliveries were associated with significant improvements in feelings of social isolation among people living alone.

🥗 A MEAL CAN FEED MORE THAN HUNGER.
For an older adult living alone, a regular meal delivery can also mean something incredibly important: Connection.
Research from Meals on Wheels America found that older adults receiving daily-delivered meals were significantly more likely to experience improvements in feelings of social isolation.
Regular visits from a volunteer or driver also helped participants feel safer at home.
That simple knock on the door can become a moment of connection, reassurance, and human interaction.

Today we’re giving a well-deserved shoutout to Maureen, someone who is always willing to jump in and help wherever she’s needed. Her positive attitude, warm smile, and willingness to support others make a difference every day.

Around the office, you can usually spot Maureen “getting her steps in” as she moves from place to place—often helping someone along the way! 😊

Her creativity shines outside of work, too. Maureen loves artistic hobbies and has created many beautiful pieces that have found homes in her own office and throughout our workplace.

Every Friday, I deliver 23–24 meals to homebound seniors in Palm Bay because we simply don’t have enough volunteer drivers to cover the route.

It is one of the most humbling and fulfilling parts of my week. I get to see firsthand what a meal, a friendly face, and a few minutes of conversation can mean to someone who may not see anyone else that day.

But there’s a part of this route that is heartbreaking.

Several clients on my route are marked G3, meaning their meals are currently being provided through a special grant. When that grant cycle ends, unless we find another source of funding, those seniors will be placed back on the Meals on Wheels waitlist.

I know their names. I knock on their doors. I hand them their meals. And knowing we may soon have to tell them we can no longer come is incredibly difficult.

This is why sustainable community support matters. It’s why volunteers matter. And it’s why we have to keep telling the story of the growing need among seniors in Brevard County.

They shouldn’t have to wonder if Friday’s meal will someday be their last delivery.

A delivered meal can do so much more than put food on the table.
Research reviewing 38 studies found that Meals on Wheels programs can help older adults:
❤️ Improve food security and diet quality
🏡 Maintain their independence at home
🤝 Reduce social isolation and loneliness
🏥 Reduce the use of costly healthcare services
