Water is essential for nearly every function in the body. Staying hydrated helps regulate body temperature, transport nutrients, support digestion, lubricate joints, and maintain energy levels. During the summer months, higher temperatures and increased outdoor activities can lead to greater fluid loss, making it even more important to drink water throughout the day. For more information, check out this blog https://blogs.ifas.ufl.edu/brevardco/2024/03/19/the-importance-of-hydration-understanding-the-nutritional-value-of-water/

We interviewed 4-H alumni, Miles Reisman. He shared with us his experiences as a 4-Her and how they have helped him with future opportunities.

In the interview, he talked about his experiences with gardening and shooting sports. He took part in YHEC (Youth Hunter Education Challenge), where youth improve their hunting and marksmanship skills. Reisman's favorite memory from 4-H was 4-H University, an opportunity for senior 4-H youth to participate in workshops, learn about career opportunities, take part in service activities, and more.

Thank you, Miles!

Educational Tuesday: The Science of Cheesemaking
Cheesemaking is a fascinating blend of food science and culinary tradition. By adding cultures, enzymes, or acids to milk, proteins coagulate and separate from the liquid whey, creating a variety of cheese textures and flavors. Small changes in ingredients and processing methods can produce dramatically different cheeses.

We had a wonderful Educational Tuesday learning the art and science of cheesemaking! We offered three classes throughout the day, and participants made two different types of cheese in each session: Mozzarella and Fromage Facile, a fresh cheese with a texture somewhere between ricotta and cottage cheese. To make the cheeses even more flavorful, we added a variety of herbs and spices, creating some delicious combinations. It was a fun, hands-on experience that demonstrated how simple ingredients can be transformed into nutritious, flavorful foods.

Engaging your senses is a simple grounding technique. Touch, texture, and temperature help calm the nervous system by bringing your attention back to what’s right in front of you. Sensory grounding is a practical tool for moments of overwhelm.
