Building the Beloved Community- it takes All of Us to make it happen. Today was great to see new faces and talk with people about what we do as a Commission and how, with their help, we have a few more hands, greater effort, and vision.
We had trifolds with information on Dr. King’s life and the Six Principles of Non-Violence https://nmmlksc.org/principles-of-nonviolence/ and how it’s a discipline that doesn’t just happen, one has to work on it.
It was great to hear original music from Ms. Dawson and it made all of us “Excited” as she was to bring her gift of song. Thanks to theNM MLK Jr. Commission, City of Clovis, NM (City Government), Mayor Mike Morris, Commissioner Juan Garza and all of the community members who showed up and helped build some connections. We had some good eats from BBQ Kingz and good information to be had all around!!
Kids got all types of sports equipment to play with at the park and take home. They had a College Sorority Step session for kids, painting sessions at the Senior Center, the pool and zoo were open to the public. We had a good outreach because People new to the community came out to see what Clovis is all about. Some people are healing from recent traumas and some are many years from their own personal experiences. We all are living in a world that has its ebb and flow, but it truly is a gift to wake up and Be. Not everyone got a part of today, and we did! We Thank God for That!
Be on the look out for an announcement on this year’s $1,000 Scholarship opportunity for High School seniors. It will be posted soon. Applications and documentation will need to be turned into the Guidance Counselors at Clovis High School,Clovis Christian Schools, or the Early College Clovis Community College- Essay will be based on Dr. King’s Third principle and this years theme- “Non-Violence Seeks to Defeat Injustice and Evil, not People” and how they will apply this to their first year in college.
